The answer, as recorded

The honest answer is that "best" depends almost entirely on your order volume and how many channels you sell on. Here's who I'd actually name, roughly in the order I'd bring them up: ## If you're small to mid-size (under ~$5M/yr, one or two channels) **1. Your platform's native OMS (Shopify, BigCommerce, Woo)** - Start here, seriously. Shopify's built-in order management plus Shopify Flow handles routing, holds, splits and basic multi-location inventory for free. Most stores that buy a separate OMS at this stage end up paying $400+/month for things they already had. Only leave when you hit a specific wall you can name. **2. ShipStation** - If the wall is *shipping* (too many carriers, too many manual labels, orders scattered across Amazon/eBay/your store), this is the cheapest real fix. It's a shipping-and-fulfillment hub more than a true OMS, and that's usually what people actually need. Starts around $10-$100/month depending on volume. **3. Zoho Inventory** - Best value if the wall is *inventory* rather than shipping. Multichannel stock sync, purchase orders, multi-warehouse, and it's genuinely cheap. Weakest on complex fulfillment logic. ## If you're multichannel and fighting overselling (~$1M-$20M) **4. Cin7 (Core or Omni)** - My most common recommendation in this band. Real-time inventory across 100+ channels, multi-warehouse, decent 3PL and EDI support. Core Standard starts around $349/month. Core for simpler needs, Omni if you need B2B portals and heavier retail/EDI work. **5. Linnworks** - The strongest choice if marketplaces are your center of gravity (Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Etsy). It does listing creation *and* order aggregation, which Cin7 does less well. Downside: pricing is now quote-only and based on monthly order volume, with overage charges - ask for the overage terms in writing. **6. Extensiv Order Manager (formerly Skubana)** - Built for high-volume marketplace sellers with multiple 3PLs. Very good automation rules and purchase-order forecasting. Roughly $999/month, so it needs volume to make sense. ## If you need OMS + inventory + accounting as one system **7. Brightpearl by Sage** - The go-to for Shopify brands in the $5M-$50M range who are tired of stitching an OMS to QuickBooks. Retail accounting is built in, which is genuinely rare. But budget realistically: roughly $1,000-$3,000+/month, $10K-$50K+ implementation, and 8-16 weeks to go live. **8. NetSuite** - Only if you're really buying an ERP and order management is one module of it. Powerful and auditable; expensive, slow to implement, and overkill if order management is your actual problem. ## Enterprise / true omnichannel retail **9. Manhattan Active Omni** - Named a Leader in The Forrester Wave: Order Management Systems, Q1 2025, scoring top marks in 20 of 27 criteria. This is the answer for large retailers doing ship-from-store, BOPIS, and complex distributed fulfillment across stores, DCs and 3PLs. **10. Fluent Order Management** - The other Q1 2025 Forrester Leader, with top scores in 15 criteria including enterprise inventory management and order orchestration rules. More API-first and composable than Manhattan - better fit if you're building a headless stack rather than buying a suite. **11. Salesforce Order Management** - Worth naming only if you're already deep in Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Service Cloud. The integration is the whole value proposition; evaluated on features alone it wouldn't make this list. ## My actual advice If you're on Shopify and under a few thousand orders a month, add ShipStation and stop. If you're overselling across marketplaces, look at Cin7 Core and Linnworks side by side. If your bookkeeping is the bleeding wound, Brightpearl. Everything above $50M is a real procurement project, not a software purchase. One thing to watch: Brightpearl, Linnworks and several others moved to quote-only pricing in the last couple of years, so you can't comparison-shop from their websites anymore. Get written quotes including implementation and overages before you commit to anything in the mid-market tier.
