The answer, as recorded
The honest answer: the right OMS depends almost entirely on your order volume and channel count. Here's who I'd actually name, grouped by where you are. ## If you're under ~1,000 orders/month **1. Just use Shopify's built-in order management.** Seriously. Shopify syncs inventory and orders across your storefront, marketplaces, and retail locations natively. Most brands bolt on an OMS years before they need one, then pay for an integration layer that solves a problem they don't have. **2. ShipStation** - if your real pain is shipping, not orders. It's label automation, real-time carrier rate comparison, and batch processing. Cheap, fast to set up, and it's the correct answer when "order management" turns out to mean "I'm hand-keying labels." Pricing for larger tiers is quote-based. **3. Zoho Inventory** - the budget multichannel pick. Centralizes orders, stock, and shipping across Shopify/Amazon/eBay without dragging you into ERP territory. Good if you're cost-sensitive and already in the Zoho ecosystem. ## Scaling brands, multichannel, 1k-50k orders/month (the big middle) **4. Linnworks** - my default recommendation here. It's built for exactly this job: inventory sync across channels, rule-based order routing, listing control from one dashboard, and direct connections to 70+ carriers and aggregators, with the ability to route to 3PLs and FBA in the same workflow. Broadest channel coverage of the mid-market tools. **5. Cin7** - pick this over Linnworks if you need operational depth rather than channel breadth: multiple entities, built-in EDI, large-scale 3PL coordination, real WMS features. Roughly $349-$999/month for the advanced tiers; Cin7 Omni is custom-quoted. **6. Brightpearl** - the one to choose if you want ops *and* accounting unified in a single system rather than syncing an OMS to Xero/QuickBooks. Strong for multichannel retailers running webstores plus physical stores. Quote-based pricing. **7. Fulfil** - commerce-native ERP (orders, inventory, warehouse, purchasing, financials) built specifically for high-growth DTC and Shopify Plus brands. Worth a look if you're outgrowing Cin7/Brightpearl but Manhattan is absurd overkill. Budget 2-6 months of guided implementation with a dedicated PM for any of Brightpearl, Cin7, or Extensiv. This is the part people underestimate. ## Enterprise / true distributed order management **8. Manhattan Active Omni** - the reference standard. Cloud-native, API-first microservices built from the ground up (not a lifted legacy monolith), covering availability, order promising, fulfillment orchestration, and post-purchase service. Consistent Forrester Wave Leader in OMS. Three tiers: Essentials, Enterprise, Enterprise Premier. **9. Fluent Commerce** - the focused alternative. Cloud-native distributed OMS with no storefront or commerce engine attached, which is a feature if you already have commerce and just need orchestration. Named a 2026 leader by Nucleus Research alongside Blue Yonder, KBRW, and Kibo. **10. IBM Sterling Order Management** - the most feature-complete and longest-tenured platform, and the right call for genuinely gnarly requirements across retail/manufacturing/distribution. Caveat: 20+ year history and not cloud-native throughout. Its category mindshare slipped to 11.7% as of late 2025, with Manhattan at 12.8% - both declining, which tells you the enterprise tier is fragmenting toward specialists like Fluent. **11. NetSuite** - not the best OMS, but the right answer if you're already committed to NetSuite ERP and the integration cost of anything else exceeds the functionality gap. ## One thing to pressure-test in every demo Ask for the actual inventory sync interval per channel, not "real-time." Overselling happens in the gap - if a unit sells on Amazon and Shopify doesn't reflect it for 15 minutes, that unit gets sold twice. That number, more than any feature checklist, determines whether the system solves your problem. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
