## Order management systems worth looking at The honest first point: "OMS" covers three very different tiers of product, and the right pick depends almost entirely on your volume and how many fulfillment locations you have. Here's how I'd rank them. ### If you're small / just starting (under ~1,000 orders/month) **1. Your ecommerce platform's native tools - Shopify in particular.** Don't buy an OMS yet. Shopify handles multichannel order sync across your storefront, Amazon, Walmart and eBay via Marketplace Connect, and tracks inventory across up to 1,000 locations in one view. Most brands outgrow this later than they think. **2. ShipStation (~$10/mo entry).** The cheapest real step up. Pulls orders from every channel, batches them, applies carrier rules, prints discounted labels. Inventory features are thin - people use it as a lightweight OMS, not a true one - but for a label-printing bottleneck it's the fastest fix. **3. Zoho Inventory.** Good cheap cloud option if you want actual stock control plus varied shipping carriers, and especially if you're already in the Zoho ecosystem. ### If you're a growing SMB (multiple channels, real inventory complexity) **4. Cin7 (Core from $349/mo, Pro $599, Advanced $999).** My default recommendation in this tier. Transparent pricing, solid WMS in the higher plans, and Cin7 Omni is specifically strong for wholesale/B2B alongside DTC. **5. Brightpearl.** Repeatedly called out as the best fit for multichannel retailers specifically - it's a retail operations system, not a generic inventory tool, so the order workflows match how retail actually works. **6. Linnworks (quote-based, typically $450+/mo).** Pick this one if breadth of channels is your problem - 70+ sales channels, macro-based automation, and the best stock forecasting of this group. **7. Extensiv Order Manager ($1,000+/mo).** The one to choose if your fulfillment is split across owned warehouses, FBA, *and* multiple 3PLs. That specific mess is what it's built for. ### If you're enterprise / omnichannel retail **8. Manhattan Active Omni.** The incumbent everyone else benchmarks against - OMS, POS, store ops, inventory, promotions in one suite. Genuinely excellent, especially if you already run Manhattan for warehousing. Trade-offs are real: long, expensive implementations, and you pay for breadth you may never switch on. **9. Fluent Commerce.** The better pick if you want composable/headless - cloud-native microservices, strong at BOPIS and ship-from-store, and you own your order logic in code. Downside is assemble-it-yourself: things that ship out of the box elsewhere become internal build and maintenance. **10. HotWax Commerce.** Underrated middle path. Adds pre-orders, backorders, store fulfillment and marketplace routing on top of your existing storefront - good when you want omnichannel fulfillment without replacing your frontend. Popular with Shopify Plus brands. **11. NetSuite or Salesforce Order Management.** Only if you're already committed to that ERP/CRM stack. The integration advantage is real; buying either purely as an OMS is overpaying. ### The signal that you actually need one Native platform tools start failing at three specific points: multi-warehouse inventory where stock sits in locations with different service levels, 3PL *plus* in-house fulfillment where routing must account for cutoffs and exceptions, and complex allocation for bundles, pre-orders, partial shipments, or channel-priority rules. If none of those describe you, stay on your platform's native tooling and spend the money elsewhere.
