Here's how I'd actually rank these, assuming "small business" means roughly 2-50 people. **1. Google Workspace (Google Drive) - the default pick for most small businesses.** $6/user/month gets you email on your own domain, Docs/Sheets, Meet, and Drive in one bill, so it replaces three or four separate subscriptions. Real-time collaboration and link sharing are the best in the category, and sharing with outside people who don't have an account just works. Watch the storage tiers: Business Starter is only 30 GB pooled per user, so a design or video shop will need Business Standard at $12 for 2 TB pooled. **2. Microsoft 365 Business Standard (OneDrive + SharePoint) - pick this if you live in Excel and Outlook.** Same $6 entry price for Business Basic, but with 1 TB per user it's far more generous on storage than Google's cheapest tier. Choose it when your team genuinely needs desktop Office apps, when clients send you complex Excel/Word files, or when you're in an industry that assumes Microsoft. The tradeoff is complexity - OneDrive vs. SharePoint vs. Teams files confuses people, and sync has historically been fussier than the competition. **3. Dropbox Business - worth the premium if files are the actual job.** At ~$15/user/month it's the most expensive of the three and it doesn't come with email, so you're paying for one thing. But that one thing is the best desktop sync experience out there, which matters if your team works in Premiere, AutoCAD, Lightroom, or anything else that opens large files from a local folder. Teams that tried to make Drive do this often end up back at Dropbox. **4. Box - only if compliance is driving the decision.** Granular permissions, retention policies, and strong HIPAA/FINRA-style governance. Overkill for a normal 10-person shop; the right answer for a small medical, legal, or financial practice that has to answer audit questions about who accessed what. **5. WeTransfer - not a replacement, a complement.** For one-off sends of a 4 GB file to a client who shouldn't get access to your Drive. Free tier handles a surprising amount; WeTransfer Pro is cheap. Keep it alongside your main tool rather than instead of one. **6. Sync.com or Proton Drive - if end-to-end encryption is a requirement.** Zero-knowledge encryption means the provider can't read your files, which Google, Microsoft, and Dropbox can't claim. The cost is weaker collaboration and clunkier external sharing, so only go here if privacy is a stated business requirement rather than a preference. **7. Zoho WorkDrive - the value play.** Genuinely cheaper than Google and Microsoft, and excellent if you're already using Zoho CRM or Books. The apps are a step behind, so it's a budget decision more than a quality one. One thing worth planning for: the common mistake is trying to make a single tool handle both internal collaboration and polished external sharing. Most small businesses end up with a main suite (Google or Microsoft) plus a lightweight send tool, and that's fine - it's cheaper than forcing one platform to do both badly. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
