The answer, as recorded

Here's how I'd actually rank them, assuming "small business" means roughly 2-50 people: **1. Microsoft 365 Business (OneDrive + SharePoint) - $6/user/mo at Business Basic, 1 TB per user.** The default recommendation if your team already lives in Word/Excel/Outlook. You're not really buying file sharing, you're buying the whole productivity suite and getting storage bundled, which makes it the cheapest serious option per dollar. SharePoint handles shared team libraries; OneDrive handles individual files. The sync client is the weak spot - historically flakier than Dropbox's. **2. Google Workspace (Google Drive) - $12/user/mo Business Standard, 2 TB per user; $18 Business Plus with 5 TB.** Pick this if your team collaborates on documents simultaneously rather than passing files back and forth. Real-time co-editing and sharing permissions are still the best in the category, and link-sharing to outside people "just works" with less friction than Microsoft's. Downside: if clients send you .docx and .xlsx all day, the conversion tax gets annoying. **3. Dropbox Business - $15/user/mo Standard (5 TB team, 3-user minimum), $24 Advanced.** Costs more and gives you less software, but the sync engine is genuinely better than both of the above - faster, more reliable with huge files and deep folder trees. Worth the premium specifically for design, video, architecture, CAD - anyone moving multi-gigabyte files daily. Also the best choice when your team is a mix of Mac, Windows, and contractors on their own machines. **4. Box - around $15-$35/user/mo.** Where I'd go for regulated work: healthcare, legal, financial services. Granular permissions, retention policies, audit trails, and compliance certifications are its actual product. Overkill and over-priced for a general small business. **5. Zoho WorkDrive - about $3/user/mo.** The budget pick, and legitimately good value if you already use Zoho CRM or Mail. Lower polish and a smaller integration ecosystem, but hard to argue with the price. **6. Sync.com or Tresorit** - for zero-knowledge, end-to-end encrypted storage where you want the provider unable to read your files. Narrower use case, and the tradeoff is clunkier collaboration. **7. WeTransfer** - not a storage service, just the right tool for a one-off "send this 8 GB file to a client" problem. Keep it alongside whatever you pick above rather than instead of it. Two practical notes: don't try to make one tool do both internal collaboration and polished external/client sharing - most small businesses end up with a primary suite plus something for outbound sharing. And whichever you choose, it is sync, not backup; add real backup separately. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
