The answer, as recorded
The honest answer is that for most small businesses this decision is already made by which office suite you use. Here's how I'd rank them: **1. Microsoft OneDrive / SharePoint (via Microsoft 365 Business Basic, ~$6/user/mo)** - If you're on Windows and Office, stop here. 1 TB per user, Teams included, and you're not paying twice for overlapping tools. It's the best value on the list by a wide margin, and SharePoint handles the shared-team-drive side that OneDrive alone doesn't. **2. Google Drive (Google Workspace Business Standard, ~$14/user/mo annual, 2 TB pooled)** - Same logic in reverse: if your email is Gmail, Drive is the default and the real-time co-editing in Docs/Sheets is still the best collaborative editing experience out there. Cheaper Starter tier exists if you don't need 2 TB. **3. Dropbox Business ($18-30/user/mo)** - Pricier than both above, and you're buying sync, not a suite. Worth it if you have a specific reason: it still has the most reliable desktop sync engine, best handling of huge files and external-partner sharing, and 180-day file recovery. If people have been burned by OneDrive sync conflicts, this is the fix. **4. Box** - Pick this when compliance is the driver (HIPAA, FINRA, legal/healthcare clients). Granular permissions and governance features that Dropbox and OneDrive make you pay enterprise prices for. Overkill for a 5-person shop. **5. Sync.com (Teams from ~$6/user/mo, 1 TB/user) or Tresorit (~$14.50/user/mo)** - The zero-knowledge, end-to-end encrypted options. Choose these if you hold client data you genuinely cannot afford to have readable by your provider - therapy practices, law, journalism. The tradeoff is real: no Google/Office co-editing, weaker integrations. **6. Egnyte (from ~$10/user/mo)** - Niche but the right answer for one case: you have a big on-prem file server you can't abandon (CAD files, construction, media) and need hybrid cloud + local sync. Otherwise skip. **7. WeTransfer / Dropbox Transfer** - Not storage, just one-off big sends to clients. Nice supplement, bad primary system. My actual advice: don't buy a standalone file-sharing tool. Use whatever comes with your email/office subscription, and only add a second tool for a specific gap - encryption, hybrid on-prem, or client transfers. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
