The question asked, verbatim: best website builders for startups
Brands named, in the order the engine gave
- Framer recommended
Framer - my default for most startups.
- Webflow recommended
Webflow - pick this over Framer when content is a real part of the strategy: a programmatic SEO play, hundreds of CMS entries, localization, fine-grained control over technical SEO and site structure.
- Carrd recommended
Carrd - if all you need right now is a one-page waitlist or "coming soon" with an email capture, this is a few dollars a year and you'll be live in an afternoon.
- Wix Studio recommended
Wix Studio - the pragmatic choice if nobody on the team has design chops.
- Shopify recommended
Shopify - not a general website builder, but if your startup is a store, stop evaluating the others.
- WordPress.com recommended
WordPress.com - worth naming only if you specifically need a plugin ecosystem (unusual integrations, membership gating) on day one.
- AI-first mentioned
I left it out, along with similar AI-first tools like Durable, because the "site in 30 seconds" output tends to need a rebuild as soon as you care how it looks.

- Next.js mentioned
Also, if you have an engineer to spare, Next.js on Vercel plus a headless CMS is still the cheapest and most flexible option - the builders above are worth it mainly to keep engineers off marketing-site work.

The answer, as recorded
Here's what I'd actually recommend, roughly in the order I'd reach for them: **1. Framer** - my default for most startups. It's the fastest path from "we have a pitch deck" to a polished marketing site, and it's the one where a non-designer founder can still produce something that doesn't look like a template. Design quality and publish speed are its whole pitch, and it has a built-in CMS that's good enough for a blog and a careers page. Pro is ~$30/mo billed annually, and partner-backed pre-seed/seed companies can often get a year free through accelerator/VC perk programs. ([mercury.com](https://mercury.com/blog/framer-vs-webflow-comparison), [startupik.com](https://startupik.com/no-code-landing-page-builders-compared/)) **2. Webflow** - pick this over Framer when content is a real part of the strategy: a programmatic SEO play, hundreds of CMS entries, localization, fine-grained control over technical SEO and site structure. It's more work to build and the site-plus-seat pricing adds up, but it scales where Framer starts to strain. ([mercury.com](https://mercury.com/blog/framer-vs-webflow-comparison), [rapidevelopers.com](https://www.rapidevelopers.com/vs/webflow-alternatives)) **3. Carrd** - if all you need right now is a one-page waitlist or "coming soon" with an email capture, this is a few dollars a year and you'll be live in an afternoon. Genuinely the right answer at pre-launch; don't over-build. ([startupik.com](https://startupik.com/no-code-landing-page-builders-compared/)) **4. Wix Studio** - the pragmatic choice if nobody on the team has design chops. Drag-and-drop, templates that hold up without intervention, native ecommerce and CMS included, and it typically costs less to enter than Webflow. Also the easiest to hand off to a non-technical marketing hire later. ([g2.com](https://www.g2.com/compare/framer-vs-wix-studio-enterprise), [goodspeed.studio](https://goodspeed.studio/blog/comparing-website-builders-wix-vs-framer)) **5. Shopify** - not a general website builder, but if your startup *is* a store, stop evaluating the others. Everything else on this list treats commerce as an add-on. **6. WordPress.com** - worth naming only if you specifically need a plugin ecosystem (unusual integrations, membership gating) on day one. Otherwise the maintenance tax isn't worth it for a small team. Two caveats on the research: a lot of the top-ranking "best website builder" content is thinly-disguised marketing from the tools themselves - one AI builder, Readdy, owns several of the pages ranking for this query and ranks itself first on all of them. I left it out, along with similar AI-first tools like Durable, because the "site in 30 seconds" output tends to need a rebuild as soon as you care how it looks. Also, if you have an engineer to spare, Next.js on Vercel plus a headless CMS is still the cheapest and most flexible option - the builders above are worth it mainly to keep engineers off marketing-site work. **Sources:** - [Mercury - Framer vs Webflow](https://mercury.com/blog/framer-vs-webflow-comparison) - [Startupik - No-code landing page builders compared](https://startupik.com/no-code-landing-page-builders-compared/) - [G2 - Framer vs Wix Studio](https://www.g2.com/compare/framer-vs-wix-studio-enterprise) - [Goodspeed - Wix vs Framer](https://goodspeed.studio/blog/comparing-website-builders-wix-vs-framer) - [Rapidevelopers - Webflow alternatives](https://www.rapidevelopers.com/vs/webflow-alternatives) - [Upwork - Best website builders for 2026](https://www.upwork.com/resources/best-website-builder)

Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
