The answer, as recorded

**Framer** - my default recommendation for a pre-launch or early-stage startup. You can get a genuinely good-looking marketing site up in a weekend, animations and all, and the free tier plus $5/mo entry pricing means it costs nothing while you're still figuring out positioning. The tradeoff is a weaker CMS if you plan heavy content/blogging. **Webflow** - the right answer once marketing actually matters. Real CMS, proper SEO control, localization, and it scales to a 200-page site without becoming a mess. Steeper learning curve, and you'll likely want a contractor for the initial build. A very common path is Framer for the MVP page, then Webflow when you hire a marketer. **Squarespace** - best if nobody on the team enjoys design work. Templates are hard to make ugly, hosting and domain and email are bundled, and it's the lowest-maintenance option here. Less flexible than Webflow, but most seed-stage companies never hit that ceiling. **Wix** - the broadest all-in-one: booking, payments, email marketing, decent AI site generation. I'd pick it over Squarespace mainly if you need those built-in business tools rather than just a brochure site. Design output is a notch below Squarespace's in my view. **Shopify** - not a general website builder, but if you're selling physical products it's not really a decision. Everything else on this list treats commerce as an add-on; Shopify treats it as the product. **WordPress (hosted, e.g. WP Engine or Kinsta)** - worth it only if content/SEO is your core growth channel and you want full ownership of the stack. Maximum flexibility, maximum maintenance burden. Don't pick this for a five-page site. **Hostinger Horizons / Hostinger's builder** - the budget pick. If you need something live this week for under ~$3/mo and the site is a placeholder while you build the real product, it's fine. Don't plan to keep it. If you want one answer: **Framer now, Webflow when you hire someone to own the website.** Sources: - [Best Website Builders for Startups: The Complete Guide (2026) - Veza Digital](https://www.vezadigital.com/post/best-website-builders-for-startups) - [Framer vs. Webflow: Which is best? - Zapier](https://zapier.com/blog/framer-vs-webflow/) - [Framer vs. Webflow comparison - Mercury](https://mercury.com/blog/framer-vs-webflow-comparison) - [Squarespace vs Webflow vs Framer for Tech Businesses 2026 - Squareko](https://www.squareko.com/website-and-seo/squarespace-vs-webflow-vs-framer-for-tech-businesses-in-2026-an-honest-comparison) - [Best small business website builders of 2026 - TechRadar](https://www.techradar.com/best/best-small-business-website-builders) - [10 Best Website Builders for Startups in 2026 - Startup Savant](https://startupsavant.com/best-business-website-builders)

Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
