The answer, as recorded
Here's how I'd actually rank them, assuming "startup" means a marketing site you need live fast and iterating weekly without engineering time. **1. Framer** - my default recommendation for most startups. Fastest path from blank canvas to a site that looks like a funded company: freeform design canvas, genuinely good motion/animation out of the box, decent built-in CMS for a blog and changelog, and non-technical teammates can edit copy without breaking layout. Free to start on a `framer.website` subdomain; roughly $10/mo (Basic, annual) for a custom domain and ~$30/mo (Pro) once you need more pages and CMS collections - note it's priced *per site*, which bites if you run several. Weakness: CMS item caps and SEO/localization depth are thinner than Webflow's. **2. Webflow** - the right call once the site *is* a growth channel. Much deeper CMS (thousands of items), proper technical SEO control, localization, code export, and a big ecosystem of agencies and templates, so you're not locked to one freelancer. Site plans run about $14/mo (Basic), $23/mo (CMS), $39/mo (Business), plus a workspace seat cost if you're a team. Steeper learning curve - budget a few days or an agency, not an afternoon. **3. Squarespace** - the unglamorous but correct answer if nobody on the team enjoys design. Most polished out-of-the-box templates, everything (domain, email, scheduling, basic commerce) in one bill, almost impossible to make ugly. The tradeoff is that it looks like Squarespace, and you'll feel the ceiling if you want an unusual layout. **4. Carrd** - if what you need is one page: a waitlist, a teaser, a link hub. A few dollars a year, live in twenty minutes. Don't overthink pre-launch. **5. Shopify** - not really a competitor to the above; it's just the answer if you're selling physical product. Don't try to bolt commerce onto a design tool. **6. Lovable** (or **v0** by Vercel) - the AI-generated option, and the one I'd treat with the most caution. Lovable prompts out full-stack React + Tailwind + Supabase apps with GitHub export, free tier with daily credits, ~$25/mo Pro; v0 is stronger at individual UI components, weaker on complete apps, and priced per seat. Great for prototyping a *product* or an interactive demo. For a plain marketing site, it's a worse deal than Framer - you end up owning a codebase and deploys for pages a designer could have shipped in a day. **WordPress** gets an honorable mention only if you're betting heavily on content/SEO at scale and have someone willing to own plugins, hosting and security. For most startups in 2026 it's more maintenance than it's worth. Short version: Framer unless you know why you need Webflow; Carrd if you're pre-launch; Shopify if you're a store. One caveat on sourcing: a lot of the top-ranking "best website builder" results are low-quality SEO content, some of it from vendors ranking their own product. The rankings above are my own judgment; I used these mainly to confirm current pricing and feature limits, and pricing changes often enough that you should verify on the vendors' own pages before committing. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
