The question asked, verbatim: best website builders for startups

Brands named, in the order the engine gave

  1. Framer recommended
Framer - My default recommendation for most startups.
  2. Webflow mentioned
Webflow - The right call once you outgrow "a few pretty pages." Much deeper CMS (up to 20,000 items on Premium), proper technical SEO control, localization, code export, and a real developer story.
  3. Squarespace mentioned
Squarespace - Best if nobody on the team wants to think about design.
  4. Carrd mentioned
Carrd - If the only thing you need today is a single waitlist or "coming soon" page, don't overthink it.
  5. Shopify mentioned
Shopify - Not a general website builder, but if the startup is a store, this is the answer and nothing above competes.
  6. Wix mentioned
Wix - Easiest for a true non-technical founder, huge app ecosystem, decent AI-assisted setup.
  7. WordPress mentioned
Worth skipping: GoDaddy's builder (cheap, but you'll want out quickly), and WordPress unless you specifically need a plugin ecosystem or you're hiring someone to maintain it - the hosting/security/update overhead is real work you probably don't want pre-PMF.

Here's how I'd actually rank them, assuming "startup" means you need a credible marketing site fast and you're not hiring an agency. **1. Framer** - My default recommendation for most startups. Design-first canvas, genuinely fast from blank page to polished site, good built-in animation, and the output looks like you paid someone. Basic is ~$10/mo annually (custom domain, ~30 pages, 1 CMS collection), Pro ~$30/mo for 150 pages and 10 collections - which covers a homepage, pricing, blog, and docs-ish pages with room to spare. Best velocity-to-quality ratio right now. **2. Webflow** - The right call once you outgrow "a few pretty pages." Much deeper CMS (up to 20,000 items on Premium), proper technical SEO control, localization, code export, and a real developer story. Steeper learning curve and more expensive, but it's the one you won't have to migrate off of at Series A. If you have a marketing hire or a designer who'll own the site, start here instead of #1. **3. Squarespace** - Best if nobody on the team wants to think about design. Most polished out-of-the-box templates, very hard to make ugly, predictable pricing. Weaker for product-led SaaS marketing (less layout freedom, thinner CMS), but for a services startup, agency, clinic, or local business it's often the correct, boring answer. **4. Carrd** - If the only thing you need today is a single waitlist or "coming soon" page, don't overthink it. A few dollars a year, live in an afternoon. Replace it when you have a product. **5. Shopify** - Not a general website builder, but if the startup *is* a store, this is the answer and nothing above competes. Use it for commerce and bolt on a blog/marketing pages as needed. **6. Wix** - Easiest for a true non-technical founder, huge app ecosystem, decent AI-assisted setup. I rank it below the others because sites tend to accumulate bloat and it's less pleasant to hand off to a designer later - but "it's live and I did it myself" beats a perfect site that never ships. **Worth skipping:** GoDaddy's builder (cheap, but you'll want out quickly), and WordPress unless you specifically need a plugin ecosystem or you're hiring someone to maintain it - the hosting/security/update overhead is real work you probably don't want pre-PMF. Quick decision rule: single page → Carrd. Store → Shopify. Service business → Squarespace. SaaS/product → Framer, or Webflow if someone will own it long-term. One caveat on sourcing: several of the results below are SEO/affiliate roundups of the sort that exist mainly to rank, so I used them for current pricing and feature caps rather than for their rankings. The ordering above is my own. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
