The question asked, verbatim: best password managers for small businesses

Brands named, in the order the engine gave

  1. Bitwarden recommended
Bitwarden - my default pick for most small businesses.
  2. 1Password recommended
Teams is $4/user/month and Enterprise (adds SSO, policy enforcement, self-hosting) is $6/user/month, billed annually - roughly half the price of 1Password with no meaningful security compromise.
  3. 1Password Business recommended
1Password Business - pick this if polish and low-friction adoption matter more than price.
  4. Teams Starter Pack recommended
$8.99/user/month annually, or the Teams Starter Pack at $24.95/month flat for up to 10 users, which is the cheapest credible option for a very small team.
  5. Keeper Business recommended
Keeper Business - the value play.
  6. Proton recommended
Proton Pass Business - the one I'd name for EU businesses or anyone with real data-residency concerns.
  7. Proton Pass recommended
Proton Pass Business - the one I'd name for EU businesses or anyone with real data-residency concerns.
  8. Proton Pass Business recommended
Proton Pass Business - the one I'd name for EU businesses or anyone with real data-residency concerns.
  9. NordPass Business recommended
NordPass Business - reasonable, cheap, decent admin controls, and it uses XChaCha20 encryption.
  10. Dashlane Business recommended
Dashlane Business - fine product, good autofill, but you're paying near-1Password prices for a slightly weaker offering.
  11. Skip LastPass mentioned
Two things worth saying unprompted: I'd skip LastPass given the 2022 vault-exfiltration breach and how it was handled - the encrypted vaults attackers took are still out there being cracked offline.
  12. LastPass mentioned
Two things worth saying unprompted: I'd skip LastPass given the 2022 vault-exfiltration breach and how it was handled - the encrypted vaults attackers took are still out there being cracked offline.
  13. Google compared
And if your team is entirely on Apple or entirely in Google Workspace, the built-in iCloud Passwords or Google Password Manager are free and better than nothing, but they lack the shared-vault and offboarding controls that are the actual reason a business buys one of these.
  14. Google Workspace compared
And if your team is entirely on Apple or entirely in Google Workspace, the built-in iCloud Passwords or Google Password Manager are free and better than nothing, but they lack the shared-vault and offboarding controls that are the actual reason a business buys one of these.
  15. Bitwarden Enterprise mentioned
Above that, Bitwarden Enterprise at $6/user - get SSO, not just Teams, because the real win is being able to cut off a departing employee in one action.

The answer, as recorded

Here's what I'd actually recommend, in order: **1. Bitwarden** - my default pick for most small businesses. Teams is $4/user/month and Enterprise (adds SSO, policy enforcement, self-hosting) is $6/user/month, billed annually - roughly half the price of 1Password with no meaningful security compromise. It's open source and independently audited, which matters for a product whose whole job is holding your secrets. The admin console and apps are a bit less polished than 1Password's, so it's best when at least one person on the team is reasonably technical. **2. 1Password Business** - pick this if polish and low-friction adoption matter more than price. $8.99/user/month annually, or the Teams Starter Pack at $24.95/month flat for up to 10 users, which is the cheapest credible option for a very small team. The reason to pay the premium: the apps are the best in the category, so people actually use it instead of going back to a spreadsheet. Includes Watchtower breach monitoring and free family accounts for employees, which quietly solves the "work password reused from home" problem. **3. Keeper Business** - the value play. Business Starter runs about $2/user/month for small teams and Business around $3.75/user/month with SSO and SCIM. Strong compliance reporting and FedRAMP authorization, so it's a good fit if you sell to government or regulated buyers. The UI feels more enterprise-IT than consumer, and some things you'd expect built in (secrets manager, privileged access) are paid add-ons. **4. Proton Pass Business** - the one I'd name for EU businesses or anyone with real data-residency concerns. Swiss-based, end-to-end encrypted, GDPR posture is genuinely strong rather than marketed, and it bundles well if you're already on Proton Mail. Youngest product of the group, so the admin tooling is thinner. **5. NordPass Business** - reasonable, cheap, decent admin controls, and it uses XChaCha20 encryption. I'd put it below the others mainly because Nord's security track record is less battle-tested than 1Password's or Bitwarden's, not because of anything wrong with the product. **6. Dashlane Business** - fine product, good autofill, but you're paying near-1Password prices for a slightly weaker offering. I'd only choose it if its passwordless/credential-flow features specifically match something you need. Two things worth saying unprompted: I'd skip **LastPass** given the 2022 vault-exfiltration breach and how it was handled - the encrypted vaults attackers took are still out there being cracked offline. And if your team is entirely on Apple or entirely in Google Workspace, the built-in **iCloud Passwords** or Google Password Manager are free and better than nothing, but they lack the shared-vault and offboarding controls that are the actual reason a business buys one of these. Practical shortcut: under ~10 people, 1Password Teams Starter Pack at $24.95/month flat. Above that, Bitwarden Enterprise at $6/user - get SSO, not just Teams, because the real win is being able to cut off a departing employee in one action.
