The answer, as recorded

"Order management system" means different things at different sizes - for a shop with one to a few locations it's usually your POS plus inventory sync, while for a chain it's a dedicated OMS layer orchestrating fulfillment. Here's how I'd rank them, small to large: **1. Shopify POS (Pro: $89/location/mo, ~$67 annual)** - My default recommendation for most retail shops. Unlimited registers per location, inventory synced automatically between the shop floor, your website, and marketplaces, and order capture/checkout that just works. If you sell both in-store and online at all, this is the shortest path to one stock number across both. **2. Lightspeed Retail** - Pick this over Shopify if your inventory is genuinely complicated: matrix inventory (size/color grids), serial number tracking, vendor catalogs, purchase order workflows, work orders. Apparel, bike shops, jewelry, anything with deep variants. It's the stronger *in-store* operations tool; its ecommerce side is the weaker half. **3. Square for Retail** - Best if you're primarily in-person and price-sensitive. POS software is free, hardware is cheap, and it handles inventory counts and reporting well enough for a single shop. You pay in card processing rather than subscription. Outgrows gracefully into Square Online for light ecommerce. **4. Ordoro (from $59/mo, Pro $349)** - The cheapest real multichannel OMS. Worth it specifically if shipping is a big part of your operation - discounted carrier rates and label printing are built in, plus dropshipping automation. Thinner on features than the ones below, but the price-to-capability ratio is the best in the category. **5. Cin7 Core (~$349/mo)** - Where I'd go when you've outgrown POS-native inventory: multiple locations, wholesale alongside retail, real purchasing and landed-cost tracking. Notably the only one in its tier with published pricing, which saves you a sales cycle. **6. Brightpearl ($375-500+/mo, plus $5k-10k onboarding)** - Retail-specific and the analytics/reporting are the best in this bracket. Only justifiable once order volume is high enough that the implementation fee amortizes - realistically multi-store or several thousand orders a month. **7. Linnworks (from ~$449/mo, quote-based)** - Marketplace-heavy sellers. If Amazon, eBay, and Walmart are a large share of revenue alongside your shop, its channel listing management is stronger than the others'. **8. Manhattan Order Management / IBM Sterling / Fluent Commerce** - Enterprise only. These exist for ship-from-store, BOPIS across hundreds of nodes, and complex fulfillment routing. If you have fewer than ~50 stores, you don't need them and the implementation will hurt. **One note:** Salesforce OMS and SAP Commerce Cloud come up on every list, but both are really "you already run the mothership" choices - pick them because you're on that stack, not on their merits as retail OMS. If you tell me your store count and whether you sell online, I'd narrow this to one. Absent that: Shopify POS unless your variants are complex, in which case Lightspeed. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
