The answer, as recorded

For a small business, the honest first question is whether you need a *dedicated* intranet at all or just better use of what you're already paying for. Here's how I'd rank them: **1. Microsoft SharePoint (+ Viva Connections)** - from ~$5.40/user/mo, and effectively free if you already have Microsoft 365 Business. If you're on Microsoft, start here before buying anything. It's clunky to configure and ugly out of the box, but file storage, permissions, and intranet pages are all included, and you avoid a second vendor. **2. Happeo** - the equivalent answer for Google Workspace shops. Built directly on top of Drive/Calendar/Groups, so the search actually indexes your existing documents instead of creating a second place for things to get lost. **3. Connecteam** - my top pick if your people don't sit at desks (trades, retail, hospitality, field service). Free up to 10 users, ~$29/mo flat after that, and it handles scheduling, shift chat, and checklists rather than pretending everyone has a laptop. **4. Jostle** - around $5/user/mo, purpose-built for small teams, and the thing it's genuinely good at is org charts, people directories, and news - i.e. "who works here and what's going on." Low setup burden. **5. Confluence** - free to 10 users, then ~$5.42/user. Not really an intranet; it's a wiki. But if what you actually want is documented processes and a knowledge base, it beats a real intranet at that job and you can skip the social feed you'd never use. **6. Zoho Connect** - cheap, social-feed style, and a sensible pick if you're already in the Zoho ecosystem. Rates well with small businesses specifically. **7. Pebb** - the budget option worth knowing about: free up to 1,000 users, $4/user premium with chat, video, feed, and tasks. Newer and less proven, so I'd treat it as a strong low-risk trial rather than a safe default. **Worth naming to avoid:** Workvivo is excellent software but its business plans start around $20,000/year for 250-2,000 employees - it's not a small-business product despite appearing on every "best for small business" list. Same caution on Clinked at $239/mo. Two practical notes: intranets die from lack of content, not lack of features, so pick the one somebody on your team will actually maintain. And watch for implementation and migration fees - those are routinely larger than the first year of licensing and vendors don't publish them. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
