How to report a fake game site
Whether you are the developer being impersonated or a player who found the page: capture evidence first, then report to every layer at once. Lure pages are short-lived by design - parallel reporting beats sequential.
1. Capture evidence
Screenshot the page including the URL bar and the download button. Note where the link reached you (DM, comment, ad, forum). If you ran the download, note that too - it changes your personal next steps.
2. Google Safe Browsing - highest leverage per minute
Report the page. A Safe Browsing flag makes major browsers warn every later visitor, which neutralizes the page even while takedown crawls along. Multiple independent reports help - developers, ask affected players to file too.
3. The infrastructure
- Host - find it via ICANN lookup; write to the abuse address: page impersonates the game "[title]" (official page: [link]), offers downloads not from the developer.
- Registrar - same lookup; fresh domains used for deceptive downloads get suspended.
- Platform flows - a lookalike ON itch.io/Steam goes through that platform's report; pages on Blogspot/Wix/cloud drives go through those providers' impersonation forms, which act fast.
4. If money or accounts were taken
Card issuer first (block + dispute), then IC3 in the US. Compromised game/Discord/Steam accounts: change passwords from a clean device, enable two-factor, revoke sessions, warn your contacts - your account is the next wave's sender.
The developer's side
