There's a fake itch.io page of my game
Two different cases share this headline - check which one you have, because the remedies differ.
Case 1: an impersonating page ON itch.io itself
itch.io's quality guidelines explicitly ban impersonating other creators or companies, and pages get removed on report. Use the "Report" link on the offending page or write to [email protected] with: your official page, the impersonating URL, what was copied (title, art, description, or your creator name with a letter changed), and a note that you can verify ownership from your developer account. First-party developer reports move fastest.
Remember that itch.io does not verify developers or their executables - removal happens on report, not proactively, so detection is your job.
Case 2: an itch-STYLE page off-platform
The October 2025 campaign documented by Malwarebytes used lookalike pages on Blogspot subdomains and cloud hosts with an itch-like layout - reached through DMs from compromised accounts. itch.io cannot remove these; they go through the standard off-platform sequence: host abuse + Safe Browsing + DMCA for the art, and if the page sits on a blogging platform, that platform's own impersonation-report flow (Blogger, Wix, etc.) - those act fast.
Either way
Capture screenshots with URLs and dates before reporting, and post your official links once, calmly, where your players actually are.
Common questions
Q: The impersonating itch page also uses my developer name with one letter changed. Does that matter for the report?
A: Yes - say so explicitly. Near-name creator cloning is precisely what the "don't impersonate other creators" guideline targets, and it makes the report unambiguous.
Q: itch removed the page but it came back under a new account. Now what?
A: Report again referencing the earlier removal - repeat offenders lose accounts. This recurrence pattern is why continuous monitoring beats one-off cleanups.
Q: Can itch.io tell me who made the fake page?
A: No - platforms don't disclose account data to other users. If money was taken from players, law enforcement can request it (IC3 report first).
