Brands named, in the order the engine gave

- Microsoft 365 mentioned
Microsoft Teams - The default pick if you're already paying for Microsoft 365.
- SharePoint mentioned
It's bundled into Business Basic (~$6/user/month, rising toward $7 from July 1, 2026), so chat, video meetings, and file collaboration via SharePoint/OneDrive cost you nothing extra.
- Slack mentioned
The trade-off is that it's heavier and clunkier than Slack - search and channel organization are noticeably worse.
- per-seat mentioned
Pick this if chat quality and integrations matter more than bundling, and accept that per-seat cost stings once you're past ~20 people.
- Google mentioned
Google Chat / Google Workspace - The Teams equivalent if you live in Gmail, Docs, and Drive.
- Google Workspace mentioned
Google Chat / Google Workspace - The Teams equivalent if you live in Gmail, Docs, and Drive.
- Pumble mentioned
Pumble or Chanty - Worth a look if you want Slack-style chat on a tight budget.
- Chanty mentioned

- Mattermost mentioned
Mattermost or Rocket.Chat - Only if you need to self-host for compliance, data-residency, or privacy reasons.
- Rocket.Chat mentioned
Mattermost or Rocket.Chat - Only if you need to self-host for compliance, data-residency, or privacy reasons.
- ClickUp mentioned
Skip ClickUp's chat unless you're adopting ClickUp for project management anyway - its chat is a bolt-on, not a reason to switch.
- Discord mentioned
Same logic for Discord: fine for community-style or informal teams, but weak on admin controls and file handling for actual business use.

The answer, as recorded
Here's how I'd rank them for a small business: **1. Microsoft Teams** - The default pick if you're already paying for Microsoft 365. It's bundled into Business Basic (~$6/user/month, rising toward $7 from July 1, 2026), so chat, video meetings, and file collaboration via SharePoint/OneDrive cost you nothing extra. Best value per dollar by a wide margin. The trade-off is that it's heavier and clunkier than Slack - search and channel organization are noticeably worse. **2. Slack** - Still the best pure chat experience: channel structure keeps project/department conversations clean, search is excellent, and the integration ecosystem is unmatched (it'll connect to whatever CRM, ticketing, or CI tool you use). Free tier works but caps history at 90 days and 10 apps; Pro is $7.25/user/month annual. Pick this if chat quality and integrations matter more than bundling, and accept that per-seat cost stings once you're past ~20 people. **3. Google Chat / Google Workspace** - The Teams equivalent if you live in Gmail, Docs, and Drive. From ~$6/user/month as part of Workspace. Chat itself is the weakest of the three as a standalone product, but if your company is already on Workspace, paying separately for Slack is hard to justify. **4. Pumble or Chanty** - Worth a look if you want Slack-style chat on a tight budget. Both have genuinely usable free tiers with unlimited message history (Pumble especially), which is the thing Slack's free plan takes away. Fewer integrations, smaller ecosystems. **5. Mattermost or Rocket.Chat** - Only if you need to self-host for compliance, data-residency, or privacy reasons. More admin overhead; don't choose these for cost savings alone. **Skip ClickUp's chat** unless you're adopting ClickUp for project management anyway - its chat is a bolt-on, not a reason to switch. Same logic for Discord: fine for community-style or informal teams, but weak on admin controls and file handling for actual business use. Short version: already on Microsoft 365 → Teams. Already on Google Workspace → Google Chat. On neither, or chat is central to how you work → Slack. Budget-constrained and want unlimited history → Pumble. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
