The answer, as recorded
The honest headline: SIS choice is driven almost entirely by institution size and complexity, not by which product is "best" in the abstract. Here's who I'd actually name, in order: **1. Ellucian Banner (SaaS)** - the default for mid-size and large institutions, and the market leader at ~24% share in North America. Deepest functional coverage, especially financial aid and complicated academic structures (multiple terms, consortium agreements, odd degree models). Huge consulting and partner ecosystem, so implementations are painful but *predictable*. Ellucian reported 26 SaaS go-lives in Q1 2026 alone, so the cloud migration path is real and not vaporware. **2. Workday Student** - the one I'd name first if you already run Workday HCM/Financials, or if you're buying a single ERP rather than a bolted-together stack. Shared data model, genuinely modern UX, 200+ institutions contracted and ~100 live, Gartner Leader two years running. Two real caveats: implementations routinely run longer than projected because the consultant bench is thinner, and financial aid plus non-traditional term structures are where institutions most often hit gaps. Best fit for straightforward academic models. **3. Ellucian Colleague** - ~11% share; the Ellucian product aimed at small-to-mid private institutions. Worth naming mainly because if you're already on it, upgrading in place is usually cheaper and lower-risk than a Banner or Workday migration. Ellucian has been actively converting Colleague sites to Banner, so ask pointedly about long-term roadmap commitment. **4. Anthology Student** - ~10% share, and the strongest option if you run competency-based education, flexible/non-standard terms, or large online programs. It handles those natively rather than as workarounds, which is exactly where Banner and Workday get expensive. Anthology has been gaining ground at larger institutions. **5. Populi** - what I'd recommend to a small private or faith-based college that cannot absorb a seven-figure implementation. ~7% share and growing in that segment. Pricing is transparent (roughly $199/month plus ~$9 per billable student), it's genuinely all-in-one (admissions through donations and library), and its support reputation is unusually good. Fastest path to "working system" under about 2,000 students. **6. Jenzabar One** - ~11% share, long-standing small-private-college player with hands-on support. I rank it below Populi because its market share is in slow steady decline, which matters over a 10-15 year system life. **7. Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions** - ~10% share. I'd name it only for existing sites. It's a mature, capable system, but I would not start a new selection here in 2026 given where Oracle's investment is going. Two things I'd push you on regardless of choice: budget for data migration and integration work at roughly the license cost or more, and weight financial aid functionality heavily in scoring - it is the single most common place these projects go sideways. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
