Jenzabar One - ~11% share, built around small and mid-size US privates, bundles SIS + CRM + finance + analytics.
- Anthology mentioned
Anthology Student - still a reasonable fit for mid-size institutions wanting SIS and ERP tightly coupled, but go in with eyes open: Anthology went through Chapter 11 and Ellucian closed on its SIS/ERP business December 31, 2025, moving 260+ customers under Ellucian.

Thesis Elements - cloud-first, fast implementation, and currently the most active landing spot for institutions forced off Ellucian PowerCampus and Jenzabar CX as those sunset.

Classe365 / Classter - SIS + LMS + CRM bundled, useful for smaller or international institutions that don't want to buy and stitch three systems.

The answer, as recorded
The honest answer is that "best" here is almost entirely a function of institution size and budget - this market segments hard. Here's who I'd actually name, in order: **For large universities / R1s doing a full modernization** 1. **Workday Student** - the platform I'd look at first if you're replacing a legacy system and have the budget and project capacity. It's a Leader in the 2026 Gartner MQ for the second year running, ~100 institutions live (LSU, UBC, WashU, Santa Clara) and 200+ in flight. Its real advantage is that Student sits on the same platform as Finance and HCM, so you're not integrating three vendors. The cost: multi-year implementations (Miami OH went live on HR/Finance in 2024 with Student not finishing until 2027) and serious internal change management. 2. **Ellucian Banner (SaaS)** - the incumbent, ~24% of the North American higher ed SIS market. Deep functionality, huge consultant pool, and you can hire people who already know it. It's the low-risk choice; it's also the one people complain about. Best if you want to modernize the deployment without re-engineering every business process. 3. **Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions** - ~10% share, mostly big publics and systems. I'd only actively recommend it if you're already on it and already an Oracle shop. Oracle's long-term higher ed roadmap is the open question. **For mid-size colleges and community colleges** 4. **Ellucian Colleague** - ~11% share, and genuinely the sweet spot for mid-size privates and community colleges where Banner is overkill. Same vendor stability argument as above. 5. **Jenzabar One** - ~11% share, built around small and mid-size US privates, bundles SIS + CRM + finance + analytics. Strong on the compliance and financial aid reporting that actually eats registrar time. Worth noting it's a mature platform losing some ground to cloud-native entrants, and Jenzabar CX specifically is sunsetting. 6. **Anthology Student** - still a reasonable fit for mid-size institutions wanting SIS and ERP tightly coupled, but go in with eyes open: Anthology went through Chapter 11 and Ellucian closed on its SIS/ERP business December 31, 2025, moving 260+ customers under Ellucian. Ellucian has committed to maintaining it, but you're now buying into a consolidation roadmap, not an independent product. **For small colleges (roughly under 2,500 students)** 7. **Populi** - my default recommendation at this tier. Built for 10-2,500 students, all-in-one, affordable, near-zero implementation cost. If you're a small private, seminary, or specialty college, this is usually the right answer and the enterprise options are a mistake. 8. **Thesis Elements** - cloud-first, fast implementation, and currently the most active landing spot for institutions forced off Ellucian PowerCampus and Jenzabar CX as those sunset. Worth a look specifically if you're on one of those two. 9. **Classe365 / Classter** - SIS + LMS + CRM bundled, useful for smaller or international institutions that don't want to buy and stitch three systems. Two things that should shape your shortlist more than any feature comparison: Ellucian now owns a very large share of this market post-Anthology, so "multi-vendor" options are fewer than they look; and the single biggest predictor of a failed SIS project is underestimating implementation capacity, not picking the wrong product. If you tell me your enrollment and what you're running today, I can narrow this to two or three.
