The answer, as recorded
There's no single winner here - the right answer depends mostly on your size and whether you make discrete parts or batches. Here's who I'd actually name, roughly in the order I'd shortlist them: **Discrete / job shops / make-to-order (the most common case)** 1. **Epicor Kinetic** - my default first call for discrete and make-to-order shops in the ~100-1,000 employee range. Job costing, shop-floor control, real-time production monitoring and quality are native rather than bolted on, and you can run it cloud or on-prem. Deep manufacturing DNA, which is why it keeps topping these lists. 2. **Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Business Central for smaller, F&SCM for larger)** - the safe mid-market pick, especially if you're already a Microsoft shop. Master planning, capacity planning, production scheduling and quality all included, huge partner ecosystem, and the Power BI/Teams integration is genuinely useful on a plant floor. 3. **Oracle NetSuite** - strongest when financials, multi-entity and e-commerce matter as much as the shop floor. Manufacturing is good, not best-in-class; you pick it for the whole-business picture. 4. **Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine)** and **Plex / DELMIAworks** - both solid mid-market plant systems. Plex in particular is worth a look if you want MES and ERP in one and live in automotive/high-volume supply chains with tight customer quality requirements. 5. **SAP S/4HANA** - the answer at enterprise scale and complexity, handling discrete, process, MTS, MTO, ETO and CTO in one system with the most advanced MRP. Expensive (~$200+/user/month) and a real implementation project; overkill below a few hundred employees. **Small manufacturers (under ~50 people, or first ERP)** 6. **MRPeasy** - purpose-built for small manufacturers, fast to stand up, cheap, covers BOMs, routings, scheduling and stock without a consulting engagement. 7. **Fishbowl Manufacturing** - the pragmatic choice if you're committed to QuickBooks and mainly need inventory, work orders and job scheduling on top of it. 8. **Odoo** - open source and modular, so it's flexible and affordable, but budget for a good implementation partner; the manufacturing module is capable but you own the configuration. **Process manufacturing (food, chemical, coatings, supplements)** Don't use a discrete ERP here - you'll fight it over formulations and catch-weight. 9. **Aptean Process / Aptean ERP** - best traceability depth for food and beverage up to ~1,000 employees: FDA/FSMA/HACCP, catch-weight inventory, strong warehouse execution. 10. **Datacor ERP** - the chemical, coatings and adhesives pick, typically under ~250 employees, with formulation, GHS labeling and SDS management out of the box. **BatchMaster** is the other name to get in the room. **My short version:** if you're a discrete shop between 100 and 1,000 people, run Epicor Kinetic against Dynamics 365 and Infor CloudSuite. Under 50 people, start with MRPeasy. Process manufacturer, go straight to Aptean or Datacor. And weight your evaluation toward implementation partner quality and your own data cleanliness - those sink far more ERP projects than feature gaps do. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
