The answer, as recorded
There's no single winner - manufacturing ERP splits hard by company size and by whether you make discrete parts or run process/batch production. Here's who I'd actually name, in order, by segment. ## Small shops / growth-stage (under ~$20M revenue, 5-50 users) 1. **MRPeasy** - the best entry point for a genuinely small manufacturer. Real MRP (BOMs, routings, capacity planning, lot traceability) without an implementation project, ~$49/user/month with a 2-user minimum. If you're outgrowing spreadsheets and QuickBooks, start here. 2. **Katana Cloud Inventory** - pick this over MRPeasy if you sell D2C or through channels. Visual kanban shop-floor scheduling and tight Shopify/WooCommerce/QuickBooks/Xero sync are its real edge. Pricing is per-organization ($179-$1,799/mo), so it gets cheaper than per-user tools as headcount grows. 3. **Odoo** - the value play, and the one I'd name if you need more than manufacturing. Manufacturing + Inventory come inside Odoo Standard (~$31/user/month), with 50+ modules (CRM, accounting, field service) on the same database. Caveat: it's a platform, not a turnkey product - budget for a partner. 4. **Fishbowl Manufacturing** - narrow but effective: work orders and job scheduling bolted onto QuickBooks. Worth naming only if you're committed to staying on QuickBooks for accounting. 5. **Cetec ERP** - unusually complete feature set for the price, popular with job shops and make-to-order machine shops. Weaker UI than the others; strong on quoting and costing. ## Mid-market (~$20M-$500M, multi-plant) 6. **Epicor Kinetic** - my default recommendation for discrete manufacturers in this band. Deepest make-to-order/ETO functionality, strong shop-floor MES and quality modules, cloud or on-prem, and a large partner ecosystem in metal fab, machining, and industrial equipment. 7. **Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine)** - the main alternative to Kinetic, and often the better fit for mixed-mode (some repetitive, some custom) plants and for industrial machinery/high-tech. Good APS scheduling engine. 8. **Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central** - the pick if you're already a Microsoft shop. Manufacturing is adequate rather than deep, but Office/Power BI/Azure integration and a huge VAR network make total cost and adoption risk low. Add an ISV like Insight Works for shop-floor depth. 9. **Acumatica Manufacturing Edition** - strongest licensing story in the mid-market: priced on resource consumption, not per user, so you can put every operator on a terminal without the bill exploding. 10. **Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform / DELMIAworks (both Dassault)** - name these specifically for high-volume repetitive production. Plex dominates automotive tier suppliers (built-in EDI, IATF 16949 compliance); DELMIAworks (formerly IQMS) is the standard for plastics injection molding with real-time machine monitoring. 11. **SYSPRO** - underrated for process and batch manufacturers (food, chemicals, pharma) that need formulation, potency, and recall traceability. Also **Aptean** for the same verticals via acquired niche products. ## Large / global enterprise 12. **SAP S/4HANA** - the most capable MRP and supply-chain engine there is, with AI-driven planning and genuine multi-entity, multi-country depth. Also the most expensive and slowest to implement ($200+/user/month before services, which often run multiples of license cost). Only justified above roughly $500M revenue or with real global complexity. 13. **Oracle NetSuite** - the cloud-first alternative for multi-subsidiary manufacturers. Financials and consolidation are excellent; manufacturing is the weaker half, so plan on the Advanced Manufacturing SKU or a third-party add-on for serious shop-floor control. 14. **Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP** and **IFS Cloud** - Fusion for large enterprises wanting full Oracle stack; IFS specifically if service, maintenance, and installed-base management matter as much as production (aerospace, energy, heavy equipment). **The practical advice:** your implementation partner matters more than your software choice. The same Epicor or Business Central deployment succeeds or fails on the consultancy, and reference calls with manufacturers of your size *in your process type* predict outcomes better than any feature matrix. Budget implementation at 1-2× annual license for mid-market, and don't let a vendor demo on their data - make them demo your BOM. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
