The answer, as recorded

For a small business, the honest answer is that three or four tools cover almost everyone, and the right one usually depends on where your data already lives. Here's who I'd actually name, in order: **1. Microsoft Power BI** - my default recommendation. At roughly $12-14/user/month for Pro it's the cheapest serious BI tool, and if you're already on Microsoft 365 the integration with Excel, Teams and SharePoint means your team is productive in days rather than months. The Copilot features now let you ask questions in plain English. The main cost to watch: it's genuinely Windows-first for authoring, and it gets fiddly once you need real data modeling. **2. Google Looker Studio** - the one to pick if your data is already Google: Analytics, Ads, Sheets, BigQuery. It's free, which makes it hard to beat for marketing dashboards and client reporting. It gets slow and awkward with large datasets or anything outside the Google ecosystem, and it's not where you'd do finance or ops reporting. (Do not confuse it with enterprise Looker, which starts in the tens of thousands per year and is not a small-business product.) **3. Zoho Analytics** - the best value if you want per-account rather than per-seat pricing. Paid tiers start around $30/month and go to about $145/month at the Premium level, with a free plan to start. It's the natural choice if you already use Zoho CRM or Books, and it connects to a wide range of other apps. Interface feels a bit dated next to Power BI. **4. Metabase** - my pick for the technically-comfortable small team. Open source and free if you self-host; Metabase Cloud Starter is about $100/month for 5 users. A non-technical person can build a real dashboard in an afternoon without SQL, and the time from "we need analytics" to a working dashboard is measured in hours. The tradeoff is that self-hosting is your problem, and it's a query-and-dashboard tool rather than a full modeling platform. **5. Tableau** - best-in-class visualization and exploration, but at $42-70/user/month for creators it's hard to justify under about 20 people unless visual analysis is core to what you sell. Worth it for consultancies and agencies whose deliverable *is* the analysis. **6. Databox** - worth a mention if you're a founder who mainly wants KPIs from ads, CRM and Stripe in one place with an AI layer on top (around $71/month annually). It's a metrics-tracking product more than a BI platform, which for many small businesses is actually the correct scope. **What I'd tell you if you only wanted one sentence:** if you're a Microsoft shop, Power BI; if you're a Google shop and mostly doing marketing reporting, Looker Studio for free; if you want to avoid per-seat costs, Zoho Analytics. And before buying anything, check whether your accounting tool and CRM already have reporting good enough - a lot of small businesses buy BI to solve a problem that was really a messy-data problem, and the tool won't fix that. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
