Brands named, in the order the engine gave

  1. Remote compared
"Remote team" splits into two very different problems - US employees scattered across many states, vs.
  2. Rippling recommended
Rippling - my default recommendation for a distributed US team of ~20-500.
  3. Gusto mentioned
Gusto - best if you're under ~50 people and want the cheapest path to "good enough." Strong all-in-one benefits admin with health insurance, commuter, and financial tools, and the easiest UX for a non-HR founder running it themselves.
  4. all-in-one mentioned
Gusto - best if you're under ~50 people and want the cheapest path to "good enough." Strong all-in-one benefits admin with health insurance, commuter, and financial tools, and the easiest UX for a non-HR founder running it themselves.
  5. Justworks mentioned
Justworks - pick this if you want a PEO rather than software, i.e.
  6. TriNet mentioned
TriNet - the PEO for when you're larger or in a regulated industry and need multiple brokers, automated ACA and COBRA handling, and FSA/commuter administration.
  7. Employee Navigator mentioned
Employee Navigator - only if you already have a benefits broker you like.
  8. Deel mentioned
Deel - the one I'd name first for international.
  9. Oyster mentioned
Oyster - strongest on properly localized, country-specific benefits packages across 180+ countries, so employees don't feel like second-class citizens relative to HQ.
  10. Benepass mentioned
Benepass (or Forma) - not a replacement for the above.
  11. Forma mentioned
Benepass (or Forma) - not a replacement for the above.

The answer, as recorded

"Remote team" splits into two very different problems - US employees scattered across many states, vs. employees in multiple countries - and the right tool is different for each. Here's who I'd actually name. ## If your remote team is US-only, across many states **1. Rippling** - my default recommendation for a distributed US team of ~20-500. Benefits, payroll, HR, and device management in one system, so a new hire in a state you've never hired in gets insurance enrollment, payroll tax registration, and a laptop from the same workflow. It consistently rates highest on ease of setup and support quality, and the IT add-on is a real advantage when nobody is in an office. You can bring your own broker or use Rippling's. ([G2 comparison](https://www.g2.com/compare/rippling-vs-remote), [Capterra reviews](https://www.capterra.com/p/172127/Rippling/reviews/5097709/)) **2. Gusto** - best if you're under ~50 people and want the cheapest path to "good enough." Strong all-in-one benefits admin with health insurance, commuter, and financial tools, and the easiest UX for a non-HR founder running it themselves. Weaker than Rippling once you're multi-state with complex eligibility rules. ([Gusto](https://gusto.com/resources/guides/best-benefits-admin-software)) **3. Justworks** - pick this if you want a PEO rather than software, i.e. you'd rather someone else own compliance. It buys you large-group insurance pricing a 30-person company can't get alone, plus genuinely good fertility, travel, and mental health coverage, and it's the most affordable PEO with the best support reputation. Tradeoff: less control over plan design, and leaving a PEO later is painful. ([Gusto roundup](https://gusto.com/resources/best-benefits-admin-software)) **4. TriNet** - the PEO for when you're larger or in a regulated industry and need multiple brokers, automated ACA and COBRA handling, and FSA/commuter administration. More expensive and more enterprise-feeling than Justworks. **5. Employee Navigator** - only if you already have a benefits broker you like. It's the broker-centric platform, so your broker runs open enrollment in it, and it's cheap or free to you. Good carrier connectivity, thin as an HR system. ([rfp.wiki comparison](https://www.rfp.wiki/hr-office/employee-benefits-compensation/employee-navigator/benefitfocus)) ## If your remote team spans countries **6. Deel** - the one I'd name first for international. Widest owned-entity footprint, fastest to hire in a new country, 120+ currencies, and the best contractor handling if your team is a mix of employees and contractors. ([Deel](https://www.deel.com/blog/best-global-employee-benefits-platforms-compared-2026/)) **7. Remote** - better than Deel when you want employment and benefits under a single contract in markets where Remote owns the entity; benefits quality there is excellent. Watch out: outside its entity markets it uses local partners and coverage gets uneven. ([People Managing People](https://peoplemanagingpeople.com/tools/deel-vs-oyster-hr/)) **8. Oyster** - strongest on properly localized, country-specific benefits packages across 180+ countries, so employees don't feel like second-class citizens relative to HQ. Good if full-time employee experience matters more than contractor flexibility. ([hellopebl.com](https://hellopebl.com/resources/blog/oyster-vs-deel/)) ## The remote-specific add-on worth knowing **9. Benepass** (or **Forma**) - not a replacement for the above. These administer stipends - home office, wellness, internet, coworking - as a compliant pre-loaded card instead of expense reimbursements. For a fully remote company this is usually the benefit employees actually notice, and it's the gap Rippling and Gusto don't fill. ([rfp.wiki](https://www.rfp.wiki/hr-office/employee-benefits-compensation/benepass/benefitfocus)) **Short version:** US-distributed and want software - Rippling. US-distributed and want someone else to own it - Justworks. Multi-country - Deel. Then layer Benepass on top for stipends. One note on timing: open enrollment for January 1 plan years is happening right now, so if you're switching for 2027, you have roughly a year, and most carriers need 60-90 days' lead time.
