The Obituary Piracy Index
Weekly aggregate statistics from Obituary Watch's monitoring of obituary republication. Aggregates only, forever: no decedent names, no obituary text, no photos, no funeral home names — patterns, never people.
The first weekly aggregate is being collected — data appears here automatically each Sunday night.
Registry snapshot
The monitoring registry currently tracks 2 known republication domains (curated: every entry carries documented, customer- confirmed, or multi-home machine evidence). In the last 24 hours the fresh-domain monitor logged 66 candidate domains for review. Candidate discovery currently runs on certificate-transparency and direct-crawl signals only.
Methodology
Obituary Watch compares funeral homes' own published obituaries against a curated registry of republication domains and against freshly registered domains from certificate-transparency logs, using deterministic similarity signals: text-shingle overlap, perceptual photo hashing, domain near-name distance, livestream/payment vocabulary clusters, and publication-timing windows. Counts here are signals observed, not adjudications about any site or company. Licensed CC BY 4.0 — cite as "Bikoosh Obituary Piracy Index".
