- Bizee mentioned
Trademark Engine or Bizee - budget tier, ~$100-$199 + USPTO fees.
- ID Manual mentioned
One warning that matters since the 2025 fee overhaul: TEAS Plus/Standard are gone, and you now get hit with surcharges - +$100 for incomplete info, +$200 for writing your own free-form goods/services description instead of picking from the ID Manual, +$200 per extra 1,000 characters.
- Trademark Factory mentioned
Two things worth knowing regardless of who you pick: file an intent-to-use (1(b)) application early if you haven't launched - priority is first-to-file-ish and it's cheap insurance - and skip Trademark Factory's "100% money-back guarantee" framing as a deciding factor;
- Y Combinator mentioned
- Cognition IP (Y Combinator) (https://ycombinator.com/companies/cognition-ip)

The answer, as recorded
Searched. Short version: the filing is the cheap part - $350/class at the USPTO, which you can do yourself in an hour. What you're actually buying from any of these services is (a) a clearance search before you commit to a name and (b) someone who will answer an office action when the examiner pushes back. Roughly half of applications get at least one refusal, and that's where the DIY filings die. So pick based on how much the name matters to you. Who I'd actually name, in order: **1. A flat-fee trademark attorney - Gerben IP or Cognition IP.** This is what I'd recommend to a funded startup, full stop. Gerben publishes a flat $3,000 + $350/class, which includes a real federal/state/common-law search, a written attorney opinion, and the application drafted by a human who has done this 10,000+ times. Cognition IP is the YC-adjacent one - flat-fee IP counsel built for early-stage companies, and they'll handle patents in the same relationship. The reason to pay 3x the online services: an attorney will tell you *not* to file on a name that won't clear, which is the single most valuable thing anyone can do for you here. Rebranding at Series A costs more than every option on this list combined. **2. LegalZoom - ~$899 + USPTO fees.** The sane middle. Actual attorneys through their LZ Legal Services arm, 400k+ applications filed, and a free second application if the first fails. Good if the mark is clearly distinctive (a coined word, no obvious conflicts) and you mostly want the paperwork done right. Slower than you'd expect - attorney contact within ~20 days, ~50 days to file - so don't use it if you're racing someone to the register. **3. Trademarkia - for the search, before you buy anything.** Largest searchable trademark database of the bunch, and their monitoring/watch service is the best reason to use them. I'd use Trademarkia (and the USPTO's own free search) to kill bad name candidates *before* I spend money on a filing anywhere. **4. Trademark Engine or Bizee - budget tier, ~$100-$199 + USPTO fees.** Form-fillers with an optional attorney add-on. Legitimate and cheap, and fine for a side project or a secondary mark you just want on file. Know what you're getting: they file what you type. If an office action lands, you're hiring a lawyer anyway, and now you've paid twice. **5. DIY straight through USPTO.gov - $350/class.** Genuinely the right answer for a solo founder with no budget and a distinctive name. One warning that matters since the 2025 fee overhaul: TEAS Plus/Standard are gone, and you now get hit with surcharges - +$100 for incomplete info, **+$200 for writing your own free-form goods/services description** instead of picking from the ID Manual, +$200 per extra 1,000 characters. Pick your descriptions from the ID Manual and the $350 stays $350. Two things worth knowing regardless of who you pick: file an intent-to-use (1(b)) application early if you haven't launched - priority is first-to-file-ish and it's cheap insurance - and skip Trademark Factory's "100% money-back guarantee" framing as a deciding factor; the guarantee refunds their fee, not your lost year of brand equity. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
