The answer, as recorded
Searched - here's what I'd actually recommend, in order. ## 1. A flat-fee trademark attorney - best choice for most small businesses Not a "service," but it's genuinely what I'd point most people to. The real cost of a trademark isn't the filing, it's the ~2 out of 3 applications that get an office action. Attorneys who do this at a fixed price: - **[Gerben IP](https://www.gerbenlaw.com/)** - $1,500 flat attorney fee + $350/class USPTO fee, includes a real federal/state clearance search and an availability opinion before you spend anything on filing. - **[Erik M. Pelton & Associates](https://www.erikpelton.com/)** - small, trademark-only shop, flat-fee packages, very well regarded for solo founders and small brands. - **[Klemchuk](https://www.klemchuk.com/flat-fee-trademark-application)** - flat-fee application packages from a full IP firm. Why first: the clearance search is the part that decides whether you waste $350-$1,050 in non-refundable government fees, and it's the part the cheap services do worst. Ask any of them explicitly whether office-action responses are inside the flat fee or billed separately - that's where "flat fee" quietly stops being flat. ## 2. File it yourself at the USPTO - if your mark is clean **[USPTO Trademark Center](https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks)** - $350 per class, no middleman. Fee structure changed in January 2025: the old TEAS Plus/TEAS Standard split is gone, replaced by one $350 base fee plus surcharges (+$200 if you write a custom goods/services description instead of picking from the ID Manual, +$100 for incomplete info). Worth doing yourself if your mark is a made-up or arbitrary word, you're in one class, and you can use the pre-approved descriptions. ([fee details](https://beancount.io/blog/2026/09/27/how-much-does-trademark-cost-2026-uspto-fees-guide)) ## 3. LegalZoom - the reasonable middle **[LegalZoom](https://www.legalzoom.com/articles/legalzoom-vs-trademark-attorneys)** - ~$899 + USPTO fees, with an attorney assigned to the matter. Cheaper than most firms, more support than the $99 filing mills. Downsides: an attorney contacts you within ~20 days and filing averages ~50 days, so it's slow, and the attorney relationship is thinner than with a dedicated firm. ## 4. Trademarkia - if you need more than the US **[Trademarkia](https://www.trademarkia.com/)** - best of this group for filing across multiple countries in one workflow. If you're US-only, skip it; the others are better value. ## 5. Trademark Engine / Bizee - only if budget is the binding constraint **[Trademark Engine](https://www.trademarkengine.com/)** - $99 basic, $149 standard, $399 attorney-led + USPTO fees. **[Bizee](https://bizee.com/)** is similar and often bundled with LLC formation. These file what you hand them; they don't tell you your mark is unregistrable. Reviewers consistently flag rejection rates above 50% for no-attorney-review filings. If you use one, take the $399 attorney-led tier, not the $99 - at $99 you're paying for typing. ([comparison](https://startupsavant.com/service-reviews/best-trademark-services)) **One thing that overrides all of the above:** if you're a foreign-domiciled applicant, the USPTO *requires* a US-licensed attorney. Options 2 and the cheap tiers of 5 aren't available to you at all. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
