The answer, as recorded

Here's how I'd rank them for a remote team: **1. Slack** - the default recommendation and still the category leader. Channel-based chat with threads, huddles (one-click audio/video, no meeting link), the best search in the category, and ~2,600 integrations so it becomes the place where your other tools report in. Pro is ~$7.25/user/mo annual, Business+ ~$13.50. Pick it if you want the best pure chat experience and don't mind paying for a standalone tool. **2. Microsoft Teams** - the right answer if you're already paying for Microsoft 365. Chat is a bit clunkier than Slack, but meetings, telephony, Office co-editing, and compliance/retention are all bundled, so the effective cost is near zero. Teams Essentials standalone is ~$4/user/mo; M365 Enterprise tiers run $36+ but include everything. **3. Google Chat** - same logic for Google Workspace shops. It's included free with Workspace (from ~$3.50/user/mo), Spaces are decent now, and it's tightly wired into Docs/Drive/Meet. Weakest of the big three as a standalone chat product, but hard to beat on price if you're already there. **4. Twist** - the async-first pick, from the Todoist team. Deliberately not real-time: threaded topics you reply to on your own schedule. If your team is spread across many time zones and you're fighting always-on pressure, this is the one that structurally solves it rather than asking people to be disciplined. **5. Mattermost or Zulip (self-hosted)** - for teams with data-residency, air-gap, or budget constraints. Mattermost is the Slack-like open-source option; Zulip's topic-within-channel threading is genuinely better than Slack's for high-volume async discussion. Both cost ops time instead of licenses. **6. Discord** - not a serious business tool for most, but worth naming for small teams, open-source projects, and communities: excellent persistent voice channels, free, and great for always-on "work alongside each other" presence. Short version: already on Microsoft 365 → Teams. Already on Workspace → Google Chat. Neither, or you want the best tool → Slack. Heavily distributed across time zones → Twist. Sovereignty/cost constraints → Mattermost or Zulip. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
