The question asked, verbatim: best restaurant management software for restaurants
Brands named, in the order the engine gave
- Toast recommended
Toast - my default recommendation for most full-service and fast-casual restaurants in the US.
- multi-year mentioned
The tradeoffs: it's a hardware-locked ecosystem on Android, contracts are typically multi-year, and the processing rate is negotiated rather than published - get it in writing before you sign.
- Square mentioned
Square for Restaurants - the right call for cafés, coffee shops, food trucks, bars and pop-ups.
- TouchBistro mentioned
TouchBistro - worth a look if you're an iPad-based single or small multi-location full-service restaurant, starting around $69/month.
- SpotOn mentioned
SpotOn - the one I'd put head-to-head against Toast on price for mid-size restaurants.
- Restaurant365 mentioned
Restaurant365 - the one to pick if you want accounting, inventory and labor in a single system instead of stitching three vendors together.
- MarketMan mentioned
MarketMan - if your pain is specifically food cost, invoices and COGS, this is the sharpest tool.
- 7shifts mentioned
7shifts - the best-liked product in this whole list (~4.7/5) and what I'd use for scheduling, labor cost and team communication.
- SevenRooms mentioned
SevenRooms - only relevant if you take reservations and care about guest data;
- OpenTable mentioned
it's a reservations/CRM layer, a competitor to OpenTable and Resy, not a management suite.
- Resy mentioned
it's a reservations/CRM layer, a competitor to OpenTable and Resy, not a management suite.

The answer, as recorded
"Restaurant management software" splits into two layers - the POS/front-of-house platform, and the back office (inventory, labor, accounting). Most people asking this want the first. Here's who I'd actually name, in order: ## The POS platform (the core system) **1. Toast** - my default recommendation for most full-service and fast-casual restaurants in the US. It's built only for restaurants, so the depth is there (coursing, KDS, online ordering, delivery, loyalty, payroll) and phone support is included on every plan. Plans run roughly $0-$165/month per terminal with custom processing rates. The tradeoffs: it's a hardware-locked ecosystem on Android, contracts are typically multi-year, and the processing rate is negotiated rather than published - get it in writing before you sign. **2. Square for Restaurants** - the right call for cafés, coffee shops, food trucks, bars and pop-ups. There's a genuinely usable free tier, flat transparent pricing (~2.6% + 10¢ in person, paid plans around $69/month), no contract, and it's the easiest system to set up and train staff on. It gets thin when you need serious coursing, deep inventory or multi-location reporting. **3. Lightspeed Restaurant** - best fit for multi-location groups and hybrid venues (restaurant plus retail, wineries, hotels), roughly $69-$399/month. Strong inventory and multi-site reporting; reviewers consistently find the menu-building and UI clunkier than Toast or Square. **4. TouchBistro** - worth a look if you're an iPad-based single or small multi-location full-service restaurant, starting around $69/month. Transparent pricing, restaurant-only focus. Its user ratings (~3.8/5) trail the others, so demo it rather than taking it on reputation. **5. SpotOn** - the one I'd put head-to-head against Toast on price for mid-size restaurants. Rates well with users (~4.3/5), starts low (~$55/month), and is more flexible for restaurant-plus-retail concepts. Scrutinize the long-term contract and fee schedule; low entry pricing is where the surprises live. ## The back office (add on top of the POS) **6. Restaurant365** - the one to pick if you want accounting, inventory and labor in a single system instead of stitching three vendors together. It's the enterprise/multi-unit answer, and the only one here that replaces your accounting software. Heavier implementation and a lower user rating (~4.1/5) reflect that complexity. **7. MarketMan** - if your pain is specifically food cost, invoices and COGS, this is the sharpest tool. Users rate the invoice automation and ease of use highly. It does inventory and purchasing well and leaves accounting and scheduling to others. **8. 7shifts** - the best-liked product in this whole list (~4.7/5) and what I'd use for scheduling, labor cost and team communication. It does not do inventory or accounting, so it's a companion, not a platform. **9. SevenRooms** - only relevant if you take reservations and care about guest data; it's a reservations/CRM layer, a competitor to OpenTable and Resy, not a management suite. **Practical note:** several of the head-to-head comparisons that rank highly in search are published by the vendors themselves (TouchBistro's own SpotOn comparison, Toast's own Square comparison), so treat those framings as marketing. Before signing, get the full processing rate, contract length and early-termination terms in writing, and ask whether hardware is purchased or leased - that's where the real cost difference between Toast, SpotOn and Square shows up, not in the monthly software fee.
