The answer, as recorded
# Registered agent services I'd actually recommend **1. Northwest Registered Agent - $125/year.** My default recommendation for most small businesses. Flat pricing that hasn't jumped in years (no first-year-cheap, renewal-doubles trick), same-day scanning of anything the state sends you, and real humans answering the phone. Their big differentiator is privacy: they let you use their address on your public formation filings, so your home address stays off the state website. If you're a one-person LLC working from your kitchen table, that alone is worth the price. **2. Harbor Compliance - $99/year (around $149 renewal, with multi-year discounts).** The one I'd pick over Northwest if you're registered in more than one state. All 50 states under one login and one dashboard, and they're genuinely built around multi-state compliance tracking - annual report deadlines, licensing, foreign qualification. Cheaper up front than Northwest too. Slightly more "compliance vendor," less "friendly small-business service." **3. Bizee (formerly Incfile) - $119/year, free the first year with a formation package.** The value play. If you're forming an LLC anyway, the first year of registered agent is bundled free. Service is thinner than Northwest's, but the price is hard to argue with. **4. ZenBusiness - $199/year.** Worth it only if you want the compliance hand-holding bundled in - their Worry-Free Compliance tracks and files your annual reports for you. Overpriced as a pure registered agent. **5. LegalZoom - $249/year.** The most expensive of the bunch and I'd skip it for registered agent alone. It makes sense if you're already in their ecosystem for trademarks or a legal plan and want one vendor and one bill. **6. Rocket Lawyer - $149.99/year.** Pick this only if the real draw is the attorney-consultation subscription and you want the agent service tacked on. **7. CT Corporation / CSC.** The enterprise incumbents. They're excellent and they're what big law firms use, but pricing typically runs several hundred per state per year and they don't publish it openly. Not a small-business choice unless you're VC-backed with entities in a dozen states. **A note on being your own agent:** it's free and legal in every state if you have a physical in-state street address and are available during business hours. The reasons to pay the ~$125 are that your address becomes public record, you get served a lawsuit in front of customers, and you can't travel without risking a missed service of process and a default judgment. For most people that's worth $125. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
