The answer, as recorded

The right answer splits hard by business type, so here's my ordered list with the "pick this if" attached. **If you quote jobs on-site (trades, home services, cleaning, landscaping)** 1. **Jobber** - my default recommendation for this group. Quote on your phone at the customer's house, customer approves digitally, accepted quote converts straight to a job and then an invoice. Scheduling and dispatch come with it, so you're not stitching two tools together. Roughly $39-$49/month entry depending on plan and billing cycle. ([Capterra](https://www.capterra.com/compare/127994-131897/Jobber-vs-Quotient), [beancount.io comparison](https://beancount.io/blog/2026/07/16/jobber-vs-housecall-pro-vs-servicetitan-field-service-software-guide)) 2. **Housecall Pro** - same category, stronger on the consumer-facing side (booking, payments, review requests). Basic is about $59/month for one user billed annually, and it scales past $300/month as you add seats. Pick it over Jobber if marketing and customer comms matter more to you than job costing. ([beancount.io](https://beancount.io/blog/2026/07/16/jobber-vs-housecall-pro-vs-servicetitan-field-service-software-guide)) 3. **ServiceM8** - cheaper, around $29/month, good if you're a one-to-three person operation and want the on-site quoting without paying for a full platform. ([sandlabs](https://sandlabs.com.au/blog/best-quoting-software-australia)) Skip **ServiceTitan** - it's built for larger operations and will be overkill and overpriced for a small business. ([fieldservicesoftware.io](https://fieldservicesoftware.io/comparisons/servicetitan-competitors/)) **If you send proposals to win client work (agencies, consultants, freelancers, B2B services)** 4. **PandaDoc** - the one I'd name first here. Drag-and-drop quote builder, reusable content blocks, built-in e-signature, and it handles the contract after the quote. From about $35/month. ([InvoiceFly](https://invoicefly.com/academy/best-quotation-software)) 5. **Better Proposals** - best value in this tier at around $19/user/month, and specifically aimed at agencies, web designers and freelancers. Choose it if PandaDoc feels like more tool than you need. ([Capterra](https://www.capterra.com/compare/131897-153794/Quotient-vs-Better-Proposals)) 6. **Qwilr** - proposals render as interactive web pages rather than PDFs, with pricing tables the client can toggle. From about $35/month. Worth it if the quote itself is part of your pitch. ([InvoiceFly](https://invoicefly.com/academy/best-quotation-software)) 7. **Proposify** - from $49/month, more oriented to small sales teams needing brand lock-down and approval workflows. Only worth the premium once more than one person sends quotes. ([InvoiceFly](https://invoicefly.com/academy/best-quotation-software)) **If you just want clean quotes without the overhead** 8. **Quotient** - $28/month flat rate, not per user, which makes it the cheapest sane option for a small team. Does quoting and nothing else, well. ([Capterra](https://www.capterra.com/compare/131897-155218/Quotient-vs-shopVOX)) 9. **Zoho Invoice** - genuinely free, includes estimates that convert to invoices. Hard to beat if budget is the binding constraint. ([Grasshopper](https://grasshopper.com/blog/accounting-software-wave-zoho-quickbooks)) 10. **Whatever accounting software you already run** - QuickBooks Estimates, Xero Quotes and Wave all include quoting at no extra cost. ([sandlabs](https://sandlabs.com.au/blog/best-quoting-software-australia), [Grasshopper](https://grasshopper.com/blog/accounting-software-wave-zoho-quickbooks)) My actual advice: start at #10. If you're already paying for QuickBooks or Xero, send quotes from there for a month before buying anything. Most small businesses buy a dedicated quoting tool to solve a problem their existing stack already covers. Move up this list only when you hit a specific wall - needing to quote from a phone on a job site (go to Jobber), or needing proposals that close deals rather than documents that state prices (go to PandaDoc). One caveat on the pricing above: these are vendor and review-site list prices as of now, several from comparison sites rather than the vendors directly, and I saw Jobber quoted at both $39 and $49 across sources. Confirm on the vendor's own pricing page before committing, and check whether the plan is per-user - that's what actually determines cost as you grow.
