The answer, as recorded

## Short answer For remote teams the single biggest differentiator isn't the feature matrix - it's **zero-touch enrollment** (Apple Business Manager/ADE, Android Enterprise, Windows Autopilot). If a laptop can ship from the vendor straight to someone's apartment and configure itself on first boot, you've solved 80% of remote device management. Every product below does that; pick on fleet mix and what you already pay for. **In the order I'd actually consider them:** 1. **Microsoft Intune** - Start here if you're on Microsoft 365 Business Premium or E3/E5, because you already own it. Cross-platform (Windows/macOS/iOS/Android), and its real advantage is Conditional Access: device compliance gates access to email and SaaS, which is the control you actually want when nobody's on a corporate network. macOS support is competent but clearly second-class vs. the Apple specialists. 2. **Iru (formerly Kandji)** - My default recommendation for an Apple-first company of ~50-500 people. Best-in-class automation and UX (Blueprints, auto-remediating "Liftoff" onboarding), and it bundles EDR and identity. Note the name: Kandji rebranded to **Iru** in October 2025 and expanded to Windows and Android. Pricing is now quote-only, and there's effectively a ~100-device minimum, so it's not for tiny teams. 3. **Jamf Pro** - The enterprise Apple standard, deepest macOS/iOS control, and the one your auditors and security team will recognize. Choose it over Iru when you need maximum configurability, a large app ecosystem, or you're big enough that the extra complexity pays for itself. For very small Apple teams, **Jamf Now** is the stripped-down version. 4. **Mosyle** - Best value by a wide margin for Apple-only teams: free for up to ~30 devices, then roughly $1-2/device/month, and genuinely good (Mosyle Fuse bundles MDM, identity, encryption, and endpoint security). The trade-off is a rougher admin experience and lighter support than Jamf or Iru. 5. **JumpCloud** - Pick this when you have no Active Directory, no office, and a mixed Mac/Windows/Linux fleet. It's an identity provider *and* MDM in one, so you get SSO, directory, and device management from one vendor - a very good fit for a fully distributed 20-200 person company. 6. **Hexnode** or **Scalefusion** - The pragmatic mid-market choices for genuinely mixed fleets, strong on Android and kiosk/shared-device scenarios, and noticeably cheaper than Intune standalone. **ManageEngine Endpoint Central** is the alternative if you want patching and MDM together on a budget. 7. **SOTI MobiControl** - Only if you have rugged Android hardware (field service, warehouse, logistics scanners). Overkill for a software team. 8. **Google Workspace endpoint management** - Not really an MDM, but if you're a small Workspace shop on Chromebooks and phones, the built-in tier plus Chrome Enterprise Upgrade may be all you need. Don't buy anything until you've checked this. ## Caveat on pricing I'd treat any specific per-device figure as a starting point only. The aggregator sources I found contradict each other and themselves on Iru/Kandji's numbers, and most of these vendors have moved to quote-only enterprise pricing. The costs that actually bite remote teams are the ones not in the price list: Apple Business Manager setup, reseller requirements to get devices into ADE, and shipping/logistics for offboarding.
