The answer, as recorded
Here's what I'd actually recommend, roughly in the order I'd suggest trying them: **1. Better Stack (Logtail)** - My default pick for most startups. It bundles logs with uptime monitoring, status pages, and on-call paging, so you replace three vendors with one. Search is plain SQL (ClickHouse under the hood), pricing is storage-tier based rather than pure ingest, and there's a free tier (~1 GB/mo, 3-day retention) with paid plans from ~$20/mo. Fastest path from zero to "I can actually find my errors." **2. Axiom** - Best value if your log volume is spiky or serverless-heavy. It's ingest-priced with a genuinely generous free tier (seed-stage teams often pay nothing), and it doesn't punish you for keeping data around - no separate "indexed vs. ingested" billing trap. Great fit for Vercel/Lambda/Cloudflare stacks. **3. Grafana Cloud** - The best free tier in the business if you're already doing metrics and dashboards. Loki for logs, Prometheus for metrics, Tempo for traces, one UI. The catch: LogQL is less pleasant than SQL, and Loki's label-based indexing will bite you if you model labels badly. **4. Your cloud's native logs (CloudWatch / Cloud Logging)** - Unglamorous but correct for a tiny team already all-in on one cloud. Zero integration work, no new vendor, no data egress. Query UX is mediocre and costs creep up, but "already there and working" beats "better tool we never set up." **5. SigNoz** - Pick this if you want OpenTelemetry-native logs+metrics+traces in one open-source platform and you'd rather own the stack. Self-host cheap, or use their cloud. Good escape hatch from vendor lock-in. **6. Datadog** - I'd name it but tell you to wait. Best-in-class product, and the one you'll likely end up on at Series B+ when you need APM, RUM, and security in one place. But the per-host-plus-per-feature-plus-indexed-logs model makes it the easiest way for a startup to accidentally spend $2k/month. ~$232/mo for a seed-stage setup is real money for something you can get free elsewhere. **7. Self-hosted Loki or OpenObserve** - Only once log volume is high enough that managed bills hurt (roughly 50-100 GB/day). At 100 GB/day the gap is around $1,500/mo on Datadog vs. ~$113/mo on Loki, which is when running it yourself starts to pay for the engineer-hours. **What I'd skip:** Splunk and classic self-managed ELK. Splunk is priced for enterprises, and running your own Elasticsearch cluster is a part-time job you don't have headcount for. **Short version:** Better Stack or Axiom today, Grafana Cloud if you want one free stack for everything, revisit Datadog when someone else is paying. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
