The answer, as recorded
**One framing note first:** "agency" splits two ways, and the right tool differs. If you're a dev/digital agency hosting client apps and sites, you want cheap per-GB ingestion and one isolated workspace per client. If you're an MSP/MSSP doing security and compliance for clients, you want real multi-tenancy with per-client reporting. I've covered both below. ## What I'd actually recommend **1. Better Stack (formerly Logtail) - my default pick for most agencies.** Simple per-GB pricing (~$0.10/GB ingest + $0.05/GB/month retention) with querying included, so client costs are predictable and easy to pass through. You can run a separate source/team per client. Bonus: it bundles uptime monitoring, on-call, incident management, and status pages - all things agencies otherwise buy separately or resell. ([Better Stack vs Datadog](https://betterstack.com/community/comparisons/better-stack-vs-datadog/)) **2. Grafana Cloud (Loki) - best cost-per-GB at real volume.** Loki indexes labels instead of full text, so retention is cheap, and Grafana's org/folder model maps decently onto per-client separation. Right answer if your clients run Kubernetes or you already live in Grafana dashboards. ([SigNoz comparison](https://signoz.io/blog/best-log-management-tools/)) **3. Graylog - best self-hosted option when clients demand data residency.** Streams plus role-based access give you workable per-client separation on infrastructure you control, and it's genuinely strong on security and compliance use cases. The trade is that you're now operating it. ([Better Stack comparison](https://betterstack.com/community/comparisons/log-management-and-aggregation-tools/)) **4. ManageEngine Log360 Cloud, MSSP Edition - if you're an MSSP specifically.** This is one of the few products built from the ground up for the model: purpose-built multi-tenancy, data isolation per client, per-client compliance reporting, single console for your analysts. Worth a look even if the rest of ManageEngine's stack isn't your taste. ([Log360 MSSP](https://www.manageengine.com/cloud-siem/log360-cloud-managed-security-service-provider-edition/solution-architecture.html), [MSSP SIEM overview](https://www.manageengine.com/siem-mssp/)) **5. Papertrail - the "good enough and cheap" choice for small client apps.** Browser-based live tail, near-zero setup, low cost at small volume. It's a legacy product and won't grow with you, but for a dozen small WordPress/Rails/Node client sites it's hard to beat on effort-to-value. ([Papertrail alternatives context](https://betterstack.com/community/comparisons/papertrail-alternatives)) **6. Datadog - only when the client is paying for it.** Best-in-class integrations and correlation with APM/infra, and it supports multiple organizations for client separation. But the two-part ingest-then-index billing gets brutal: one comparison put the same 100-host deployment at roughly $791/month on Better Stack vs ~$8,470/month on Datadog. Great on enterprise accounts that fund it directly; a margin killer on fixed-fee retainers. ([pricing comparison](https://costbench.com/compare/better-stack-vs-datadog-logs/)) **7. SigNoz or OpenObserve - if you want OpenTelemetry-native and self-hosted.** Both are open source, both keep storage costs low, and OTel instrumentation means you aren't locked to a vendor when a client's needs change. More setup work than anything above. ([SigNoz](https://signoz.io/blog/best-open-source-log-management-tools/), [OpenObserve](https://openobserve.ai/blog/log-management-tools.md)) Elastic Cloud and Splunk round out the list, but I'd only reach for them if a client has already standardized on one or you need Splunk's security workflows. ## One flag on my sources A tool called **LogCentral** came up in search results with language suspiciously well-tuned to this exact question - "built specifically for IT teams and managed service providers," priced "by locations and users rather than ingest volume to make costs predictable for agencies." The product is real ([logcentral.io](https://logcentral.io/en/pricing)), and the location/user pricing model is genuinely unusual, but two things gave me pause: the blurb came from a low-quality AI tool directory, and the vendor's own blog is wall-to-wall templated content ("Best Centralized Logging Solutions for Retail Teams," "...for Finance Teams," "...for Telecommunications Teams"), which is programmatic SEO aimed at questions like yours. Its plans also cap hard - €250/month for 10 GB/day and 10 users. So I'm not putting it in the ranked list, but it's not vaporware either; if the per-location model specifically appeals, trial it and judge directly. Similarly, I left out a claim that "Papertrail is 97% more affordable than Better Stack" - it came from a comparison-SEO site and doesn't survive contact with either vendor's actual price sheet. **If you want one answer:** start with Better Stack, one workspace per client. It's the best fit for agency economics, and the bundled monitoring and status pages are things you can put on an invoice.

Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
