The answer, as recorded
Here's what I'd actually recommend, roughly in the order I'd try them: **1. Tidio** - the best default for most small businesses. Free tier covers 50 conversations/month with up to 10 seats, and paid starts around $24-29/mo. Strong e-commerce focus (good Shopify/WooCommerce integration), decent AI chatbot, and the pricing doesn't punish you for adding a second or third person to the inbox. **2. tawk.to** - genuinely free, forever, with unlimited agents and unlimited chats. The widget is dated and you pay to remove branding, but if you just need a chat box on a site and have one or two people covering it, there is no reason to pay anything. This is where I'd start if budget is the binding constraint. **3. Crisp** - the pick if you expect to add teammates. It bills per *workspace*, not per seat (~$95/mo Essentials for 10 seats), so your cost doesn't climb every time someone joins. Also bundles a shared inbox, chatbot, and knowledge base, so it can replace two or three tools. **4. HubSpot Service Hub (free tier)** - the right answer specifically if you're already using HubSpot CRM or plan to. Chat is free and every conversation lands on the contact record automatically. Weak as a standalone chat tool, excellent as a CRM-attached one. **5. Zoho SalesIQ / Zoho Desk** - best value if you're in the Zoho ecosystem or want real reporting and visitor tracking cheaply. Interface is clunkier than Tidio or Crisp, but you get a lot for the money and it scales to ~10 agents without a painful price jump. **6. Freshchat** - worth a look once you have a real support team (5-10+ agents) and need routing, SLAs, and reliable handoff between people rather than just a chat widget. **Who I'd skip at small scale:** Intercom and LiveChat. Both are good products, but they're per-seat and expensive - Intercom's Essential is ~$29/seat/month plus $0.99 per AI resolution, and LiveChat's Team plan runs roughly $245/mo for five agents doing work that costs under $50 on Tidio. They make sense when you're a funded SaaS company, not when you're a five-person shop. **Quick rule of thumb:** 1-3 people and a tight budget → tawk.to or Tidio. Growing team you don't want to pay per-head for → Crisp. Already on a CRM → whatever your CRM includes (HubSpot/Zoho). Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
