The question asked, verbatim: best identity and access management for remote teams
Brands named, in the order the engine gave
- IAM mentioned
Best IAM for remote teams
- JumpCloud recommended
JumpCloud - my default recommendation for remote-first companies under ~500 people.
- Linux mentioned
It's the one platform that does directory, SSO, MFA, and device management (Mac/Windows/Linux) in one console, which matters enormously when you can't hand someone a laptop in person.
- Microsoft mentioned
Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) - if you're already on Microsoft 365, stop shopping.
- Microsoft Entra ID mentioned
Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) - if you're already on Microsoft 365, stop shopping.
- Entra ID mentioned

- Microsoft 365 mentioned
Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) - if you're already on Microsoft 365, stop shopping.
- E5 mentioned
You're likely paying for some of this already inside your E3/E5 licensing.
- Okta mentioned
Okta - the enterprise pick when you have a sprawling SaaS estate.
- Google mentioned
Google Workspace + Context-Aware Access - underrated if you're a Google shop.
- Google Workspace mentioned
Google Workspace + Context-Aware Access - underrated if you're a Google shop.
- Rippling mentioned
Rippling - worth naming because it's genuinely good for remote teams, but understand what it is: HR-and-payroll-first, with IT bolted on.
- CyberArk mentioned
CyberArk - only if you have privileged infrastructure access to control (production servers, cloud admin consoles).
- G2 mentioned
All of the top three sit at ~4.5/5 on G2 - this isn't a quality decision, it's a fit decision.
- Monday mentioned
Pick based on ecosystem, and prioritize two features above all else for remote work: conditional/device-trust access (unmanaged laptop can't reach your data) and automated deprovisioning (a departing contractor in another timezone loses access immediately, not Monday).

# Best IAM for remote teams The honest short answer: for most remote teams, the right pick is determined by what OS mix your laptops run and what productivity suite you already pay for. Here's who I'd actually name, in order: **1. JumpCloud** - my default recommendation for remote-first companies under ~500 people. It's the one platform that does directory, SSO, MFA, *and* device management (Mac/Windows/Linux) in one console, which matters enormously when you can't hand someone a laptop in person. Onboarding and offboarding become one action instead of five. Roughly $4-$10/user/month depending on the bundle. Downside: small orgs sometimes find it pricey once you stack modules. **2. Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD)** - if you're already on Microsoft 365, stop shopping. P1 at ~$6/user/month gets you Conditional Access, which is the feature that actually makes remote access safe (block logins from unmanaged devices, risky geographies, etc.). P2 at ~$9 adds identity governance and risk-based access. You're likely paying for some of this already inside your E3/E5 licensing. **3. Okta** - the enterprise pick when you have a sprawling SaaS estate. ~7,000-8,000 pre-built integrations means whatever obscure tool your team adopted is already supported, and Okta Workflows handles lifecycle automation well. Starts around $6/user/month but realistically lands much higher once you add Adaptive MFA and Lifecycle Management. Note the renewal pricing tends to climb. I'd reach for this above ~500 employees or in multi-cloud environments. **4. Google Workspace + Context-Aware Access** - underrated if you're a Google shop. Your directory already exists; Context-Aware Access gives you device- and location-based policy on Business Plus/Enterprise tiers without buying a separate product. Thinner on non-Google SaaS and on Windows device management, so many teams run Google as the identity source and layer JumpCloud underneath for devices. **5. Rippling** - worth naming because it's genuinely good for remote teams, but understand what it is: HR-and-payroll-first, with IT bolted on. If you're hiring internationally and want the offboarding trigger to come from the termination event in HR, the integration is tighter than anything you'd build. If you need deep IAM policy, it's weaker than the four above. **6. CyberArk** - only if you have privileged infrastructure access to control (production servers, cloud admin consoles). It's a complement to one of the above, not a replacement for it. ## What I'd skip debating All of the top three sit at ~4.5/5 on G2 - this isn't a quality decision, it's a fit decision. Pick based on ecosystem, and prioritize two features above all else for remote work: **conditional/device-trust access** (unmanaged laptop can't reach your data) and **automated deprovisioning** (a departing contractor in another timezone loses access immediately, not Monday). Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
