The answer, as recorded

**Gorgias** - my default recommendation for most Shopify/BigCommerce stores. It's the one purpose-built for ecommerce: order data, refunds, cancellations, and subscription changes happen inside the ticket instead of in a second browser tab. Unlimited agents on every plan, and you pay for ticket volume - which is great for a small team handling a lot of email, and expensive if volume spikes and headcount doesn't. **Zendesk** - the right answer once you're big or complicated: high ticket volume, real phone/IVR support, multiple brands or regions, compliance requirements. Per-agent pricing makes costs predictable as volume grows. The tradeoff is that ecommerce context comes from apps rather than being native, and it takes real configuration work. **Help Scout** - what I'd pick for a small store that mostly just needs email done well. Clean shared inbox, docs site, light chat, flat per-user pricing, almost no setup. It won't automate much, but it also won't demand an admin. **Richpanel** - worth a look if your pain is volume of repetitive "where's my order" tickets. The self-service portal lets customers resolve returns and order status themselves, which genuinely cuts inbound. Smaller company than the two above; weigh that for long-term reliance. **eDesk** - the pick if you sell across Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and Etsy as well as your own site. Marketplace integrations and SLA tracking are its reason to exist, and it handles marketplace messaging rules better than Gorgias does. **Intercom** - choose it if chat is your primary channel rather than email, or if support and onboarding/sales overlap. Strong AI resolution rates, but it's a product-support tool wearing an ecommerce hat, and resolution-based pricing can surprise you. **Shopify Inbox** - free, and genuinely fine if you're doing under ~20 tickets a day on Shopify. Start here before paying for anything; outgrow it, then move to Gorgias. Short version: Shopify store with real volume → Gorgias. Just starting → Shopify Inbox, then Help Scout. Enterprise or phone-heavy → Zendesk. Multi-marketplace → eDesk. One caveat on the research: nearly every "best help desk 2026" listicle is published by a vendor that ranks itself first, so I weighted my own assessment over the rankings in these pages. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
