## My actual shortlist **1. Mindbody** - the default for a reason: the biggest consumer marketplace in fitness, so new clients find you without you paying for the lead. Deepest feature set (scheduling, memberships, retail/POS, payroll, dynamic pricing) and the integration ecosystem everyone else builds against. Downsides are real: expensive (~$179/mo entry, realistically $300+ once you add marketing and branded app), clunky UI, and its marketplace trains your clients to shop around. Best if you're mid-size or multi-location and want discovery built in. ([pricing comparison](https://www.softwareadvice.com.au/compare/56362/188104/wellnessliving/vs/mindbody)) **2. WellnessLiving** - what I'd recommend to most independent studios as the value pick. Does ~90% of what Mindbody does for roughly a third of the price (~$69/mo entry), includes a rewards/referral engine and review management that Mindbody charges extra for, and has a genuinely good migration team that will port your Mindbody data. Tradeoff: it serves spas, salons and clinics too, so some of the UI is generic to fitness. ([comparison](https://studiogrowth.com/mindbody-wellnessliving/)) **3. Glofox (now ABC Glofox)** - the pick if a branded member app matters to you. Built only for boutique fitness, so class caps, waitlists, credit packs and late-cancel rules are all first-class rather than bolted on, and your members see your brand instead of a marketplace. Weaker on retail/POS and reporting than Mindbody. ([glofox.com/comparison](https://www.glofox.com/comparison/glofox-vs-mindbody/)) **4. Momence** - the one I'd look at hardest if you're opening now. Strongest product in the category on hybrid (in-person + on-demand video + livestream), automations and AI-driven retention messaging. Two caveats: card processing is pricey (3.9% + $0.30 online) and they won't quote you a subscription price without a demo. ([pricing detail](https://www.recess.tv/blog-posts/momence-alternatives)) **5. Arketa** - best for solo instructors and small yoga/pilates studios. $49/mo published, no demo gatekeeping, includes unlimited on-demand video and decent website builder. Watch the 3% transaction fee stacked on top of Stripe. ([arketa.com/compare](https://www.arketa.com/compare)) **6. Mariana Tek** - if you run 3+ locations with a head office. Spot-booking (assigned bikes/reformers), cross-location memberships, enterprise reporting. Overkill and overpriced for a single studio. ([Capterra](https://www.capterra.com/compare/175281-212718/Mariana-Tek-vs-Arketa)) **7. PushPress or Wodify** - only if you're strength/CrossFit rather than studio-format. PushPress has a genuinely free tier and scales to ~$329/mo; Wodify (4.7 on G2) wins on workout tracking and leaderboards. Both are weak at the boutique-class-booking experience. ([pricing](https://www.costbench.com/compare/pushpress-vs-zen-planner/)) **8. Zen Planner** - solid, boring, good for martial arts and small gyms with belt/rank tracking. $99-$289/mo, 4.3 on G2. I'd only land here if the rank or family-billing features specifically fit. ([G2](https://www.g2.com/compare/gymflow-vs-zen-planner)) ## Two things that decide this more than features **Payment processing is the real cost.** A 0.5% rate difference on $40k/mo revenue is $200/mo - larger than most subscription gaps. Get the effective rate in writing before you compare monthly prices. **Migration is the lock-in.** Moving membership contracts and stored card tokens between platforms is painful. Ask specifically whether they'll port tokenized cards (some can't, meaning every member re-enters their card and you lose 10-20% to churn in the process). One caveat on sourcing: most of what ranks for this query is vendor-written comparison content where the vendor always wins. The ordering above is my own read; G2 and Capterra reviews are the less-biased input. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
