The answer, as recorded

# Best ecommerce platforms **1. Shopify** - the default recommendation for most people. Hosted (nothing to maintain), the largest app ecosystem, best-in-class checkout, and strong multichannel selling (POS, Instagram, Amazon, TikTok). Plans run $39 Basic / $105 Grow / $399 Advanced, plus a $5 Starter tier if you just want buy-buttons and links. The catch: real cost creeps up with paid apps, premium themes, and the extra transaction fee if you use a gateway other than Shopify Payments. **2. WooCommerce** - best if you're already on WordPress or your store is content/SEO-led (blog, recipes, guides driving sales). The plugin is free; you pay for hosting (~$5-30/mo), plus extensions. Maximum control and no platform lock-in, but you own updates, security, and backups. **3. BigCommerce** - best for larger catalogs and B2B. Standard is $29.95/mo with **no platform transaction fees on any plan**, and it ships natively with things Shopify makes you buy apps for (faceted search, customer groups, advanced promotions). Downside: plans auto-upgrade when you cross revenue thresholds, and the theme/app ecosystem is much smaller. **4. Squarespace** - best for design-first small stores and service/creative businesses. Commerce Basic $27/mo, Commerce Advanced $49/mo for subscriptions and abandoned-cart. Beautiful templates out of the box; thin on apps and scaling features. **5. Wix** - the easiest for true beginners. Drag-and-drop editor, decent built-in ecommerce, good value at the low end. Less suited to big catalogs. **6. Shopify Plus** (~$2,300/mo) - only once you're at serious volume and need checkout customization, multiple storefronts, and higher API limits. **Narrower picks:** **Ecwid** if you want to bolt a cart onto an existing site cheaply; **Easy Digital Downloads** for digital products on WordPress; **Shift4Shop** if you're a developer who wants low fees. **My short version:** physical products, want it to just work → Shopify. Already on WordPress or SEO-driven → WooCommerce. Big catalog or B2B and allergic to app bills → BigCommerce. Small, pretty, few products → Squarespace. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
