The answer, as recorded

Here's how I'd rank them, with the caveat that most of the "best ecommerce platform 2026" listicles out there are affiliate-driven SEO content - so verify pricing on the official sites before you commit. ## 1. Shopify - the default, and usually the right one If you don't have a strong reason to pick something else, pick this. Best app ecosystem by a wide margin, hosted so you never touch a server, reliable checkout, and genuinely good multichannel selling (POS, Instagram, Amazon, TikTok). Basic runs ~$39/mo monthly or ~$29/mo billed annually. The real cost to watch: you pay Shopify a transaction fee on top of card rates if you use a gateway other than Shopify Payments, and app subscriptions add up fast. ## 2. WooCommerce - if you're already on WordPress or SEO/content is your moat Free plugin; you pay for hosting (~$5-30/mo at the low end, more realistically $30-100+ once you need decent performance). Infinitely customizable, total control over URLs, schema, and content structure - which is why content-led stores favor it. The tradeoff is real: you are the sysadmin. Updates, security, backups, and plugin conflicts are your problem. ## 3. BigCommerce - high-volume stores and B2B Strongest reason to choose it: **no platform transaction fees on any plan**, which matters a lot once you're doing real revenue. Also better native B2B features (customer groups, price lists, quotes) than Shopify without apps. Standard is ~$29.95/mo. Catch: plans have annual sales thresholds (roughly $50k on Standard, $180k on Plus, $400k on Pro) that force you up a tier when you cross them. ## 4. Squarespace - small, design-first catalogs Best-looking templates with the least effort, and the cheapest honest entry point if you're selling 10-50 products. Commerce tiers start around $27/mo to drop transaction fees. Don't pick it if you expect to scale - the app ecosystem and inventory tooling are thin. ## 5. Wix - closest competitor to Squarespace, more flexible editor Pick it over Squarespace if you want drag-anywhere layout freedom and a bigger built-in app market. Slightly less polished output, slightly more capability. ## Narrower picks worth knowing - **Ecwid (Lightspeed)** - you already have a website and just want to bolt a cart onto it. Has a free tier. - **Sellfy or Gumroad** - digital products, courses, downloads. Don't run these through a physical-goods platform. - **Shopify Plus / Adobe Commerce (Magento)** - enterprise, $2k+/mo territory. Only relevant above roughly $5M GMV or with genuinely unusual requirements. **My actual advice:** start on Shopify Basic unless you're already deep in WordPress (then WooCommerce) or you're confident you'll clear seven figures and want to escape transaction fees early (then BigCommerce). Migration between platforms is annoying but very survivable - don't over-optimize this decision up front. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
