Here's what I'd actually recommend, depending on what kind of startup you are. ## If you just need contracts signed (most startups) **1. Dropbox Sign** (formerly HelloSign) - my default pick. Clean UX, unlimited signature requests on paid plans (no "envelope" counting, which is the thing that burns people on DocuSign), and it's legally solid for ESIGN/eIDAS. Essentials is roughly $15/mo for one user, Standard ~$25/user/mo for teams. Good if your founders are signing offer letters, NDAs, and vendor contracts and don't want to think about it. **2. SignWell** - best value if you're cost-sensitive. Free tier covers 3 documents/month with one reusable template, which is genuinely enough for a pre-seed company signing the occasional NDA. Paid starts around $10/mo for unlimited documents, and the Business tier is ~$30/user/mo annually. It's the one I'd name if someone says "I don't want to pay for this yet." **3. PandaDoc** - pick this one *instead* if your signing is attached to selling. It's really a proposal/quote platform that includes signatures: templates, pricing tables, CRM sync, analytics on who opened what. Starter is ~$19/user/mo, Business ~$49/user/mo. Overkill if you're only doing employment paperwork; obviously right if your AEs are sending proposals. **4. DocuSign** - the one to choose when a counterparty or your own legal/compliance side insists on it, or when you're raising and want the most boring, most defensible answer. It's the market standard with the deepest compliance story. But it's the most expensive and the envelope limits are real: Standard is ~$30/user/mo annual with only 100 envelopes/user/year. Not where I'd start. **5. Zoho Sign** - worth a mention only if you're already in the Zoho suite; then it's nearly free marginal cost and integrates natively. Otherwise skip. ## If you're embedding signing into your own product **1. Dropbox Sign API** - the usual first choice for developers: straightforward REST API, good docs, free test mode so you can build before you pay. The big caveat: the API is billed **separately** from the app subscription, starts around $75/mo for 50 requests, $250-300/mo for the Standard tier, and embedded signing requires Standard or above. Budget for it before you design around it. **2. Documenso** - open source, so you can self-host and avoid per-envelope economics entirely. Hosted free tier is 5 docs/month; Individual ~$25/mo with API access; their Platform tier for builders is ~$250/mo. Good fit if you're technical, privacy-sensitive, or want to not be locked into a vendor's pricing changes. **3. BoldSign** - underrated for API work. Noticeably cheaper than DocuSign, solid API, and it has dedicated US and EU data centers, which matters if you have EU customers asking data-residency questions on security reviews. ## Short version Start with **SignWell** free while you're tiny, move to **Dropbox Sign** when you outgrow it, use **PandaDoc** instead if signing is part of your sales motion, and only reach for **DocuSign** when someone makes you. If you're embedding it in a product, **Dropbox Sign API** or self-hosted **Documenso**. One caveat on all of the above: e-signature vendors reprice and rename tiers constantly, and several of the figures here come from third-party comparison sites rather than the vendors directly. Confirm current numbers on the vendor's own pricing page before you commit, and check annual-vs-monthly, because the gap is often 20-30%. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
