Brands named, in the order the engine gave
- Tidio recommended
Tidio (with Lyro AI) - My default pick for most small businesses.
- Shopify recommended
It bundles live chat + AI bot + human handoff, auto-builds a knowledge base from your site, and has the best Shopify/WooCommerce fit.
- WooCommerce recommended
It bundles live chat + AI bot + human handoff, auto-builds a knowledge base from your site, and has the best Shopify/WooCommerce fit.
- Chatbase recommended
Chatbase - Best if you mainly want "a bot that answers questions about my business" on your website, with no live-chat team behind it.

ManyChat - The one I'd name if your customers find you on Instagram or WhatsApp rather than your website.

Gorgias - If you're a Shopify store and support is the job (order lookups, "where's my package," returns), this beats a generic chatbot.

Intercom (Fin) - Strong AI resolution quality, but I list it last for small businesses because of pricing shape: ~$29-39/mo per seat plus ~$0.99 per AI resolution.

The answer, as recorded
Here's what I'd actually recommend, roughly in the order I'd try them: **1. Tidio (with Lyro AI)** - My default pick for most small businesses. Free plan to start, Starter $29/mo, Growth $59/mo, and Lyro AI from ~$39/mo for 50 AI conversations. It bundles live chat + AI bot + human handoff, auto-builds a knowledge base from your site, and has the best Shopify/WooCommerce fit. It's also overwhelmingly used by small businesses (90%+ of its 1,800+ G2 reviews), rated 4.6/5, and includes multiple seats cheaply instead of charging per person. **2. Chatbase** - Best if you mainly want "a bot that answers questions about my business" on your website, with no live-chat team behind it. Point it at your site/docs and it's running in an afternoon. ~$32-40/mo; be aware the pricing is pre-bought message credits that auto-recharge, so watch your volume. **3. Crisp** - Pick this if your real problem is scattered messages. It unifies email, website chat, and social DMs into one inbox, and MagicBrowse lets you co-browse to walk a confused customer through a page. Free for 2 seats, Pro $25/mo per workspace, Unlimited $95 - priced per workspace, not per seat, which is unusually friendly. **4. ManyChat** - The one I'd name if your customers find you on Instagram or WhatsApp rather than your website. It has the deepest Instagram DM automation on the market, plus Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS and email, from ~$15/mo with a genuinely usable free tier. Best for creators, local services, and DM-driven sales. **5. Gorgias** - If you're a Shopify store and support *is* the job (order lookups, "where's my package," returns), this beats a generic chatbot. Native Shopify integration means agents handle orders without leaving the dashboard. Costs more, but it's the right tool for e-commerce support volume. **6. Intercom (Fin)** - Strong AI resolution quality, but I list it last for small businesses because of pricing shape: ~$29-39/mo *per seat* plus ~$0.99 per AI resolution. Fine for a 1-3 person team that values polish; it gets expensive fast once you add people or volume. **7. Botpress** - Only if you have a developer. Pay-as-you-go, fully customizable, can do things the others can't - but it's a build, not a setup. Quick rule of thumb: website visitors → Tidio; FAQ-only bot → Chatbase; messy multi-channel inbox → Crisp; Instagram/WhatsApp → ManyChat; Shopify → Gorgias. One caveat on the research: several of the comparison sites ranking these platforms are published by competing vendors, so treat "best overall" claims there skeptically - the pricing and G2 rating figures are the more reliable parts. All of these have free tiers or trials; I'd shortlist two and actually run them for a week. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
