The answer, as recorded

For an online store, the key question is whether you want phone bolted onto your support helpdesk (so agents see the order while they talk) or a standalone call center platform. Here's what I'd actually recommend, in order: **1. Gorgias (with the Voice add-on) - the default for most Shopify/DTC stores** It's the de facto ecommerce helpdesk; agents can edit orders, refund, and cancel shipments inside the conversation window without tab-switching. Voice is an add-on on top of a helpdesk plan: base plans run ~$10/mo (Starter) up to $750/mo (Advanced, 5,000 tickets), with voice metered roughly $1.20/ticket at low volume down to $0.40/ticket above 500. AI Agent is separate at ~$1.00 per resolved conversation. Best fit if phone is one of several channels rather than your main one. **2. Zendesk (Suite + Talk/Contact Center) - if you have multiple brands, regions, or 10+ agents** More mature routing, reporting, and workforce tooling than Gorgias, and the Shopify integration is decent even if not as deep. Support Team from $19/agent/mo, Suite Team $55, Suite Professional $115, with the Contact Center voice add-on around $83/agent. Per-seat pricing means a small team with huge ticket volume often pays less here than on Gorgias's ticket meter - and vice versa. **3. Aircall - best standalone phone system if your helpdesk is staying put** Cleanest setup experience in the category, strong CRM/helpdesk integrations (including Gorgias, Zendesk, Shopify), ~$30/user/mo annually. Caveat: the Shopify integration surfaces customer data on screen but isn't natively "ecommerce-aware" the way Gorgias is - no cart data or revenue attribution. **4. Richpanel or eDesk - if you sell across marketplaces, not just your own store** eDesk (~$39/agent/mo plus AI add-ons) is built around Amazon/eBay/Walmart plus your store; Richpanel is a cheaper Gorgias-style alternative. Pick these when marketplace channels matter as much as your Shopify storefront. **5. Five9 or RingCentral Contact Center - only at real call center scale** Five9 is the pick if you're running high-volume inbound/outbound with predictive dialing, WFM, and advanced AI routing. RingCentral is the more affordable omnichannel option. Both are per-agent plus add-ons and overkill below ~25 agents. I'd skip Talkdesk right now - $75/user/mo entry, usually needs professional services, and it fell 27% in this year's Gartner Voice of the Customer survey. **6. AI voice agents (Ringly.io, Consio) - worth a pilot, not your whole stack** These answer calls autonomously against your Shopify data (WISMO, returns, order changes). Ringly is ~$349/mo for 1,000 minutes, Consio is usage-based from ~$30/mo. Economics are genuinely good on repetitive calls, but Ringly is voice-only so you'd still need email/chat elsewhere. Note that most of the "best call center software 2026" listicles online are published by these two vendors and rank themselves first - treat them accordingly. **My actual call:** if you're a Shopify store under ~15 agents, Gorgias + Voice, and layer an AI voice agent later once you know your call mix. If you're larger or multi-brand, Zendesk Suite + Contact Center. If you already like your helpdesk and just need phones, Aircall.
