How to report a fake funeral stream page
Impostor stream pages are short-lived by design — registered days before a service, gone days after. Reporting still matters: it protects the next family, and takedowns during the service window protect this one. Capture evidence first, then report to every layer at once rather than in sequence.
1. Capture evidence
Screenshot the page including the payment request and the URL bar. Note where the link was distributed (which post, group, or message). If money was taken, this evidence supports the card dispute and the police report.
2. Report where the link spreads
The page itself matters less than its distribution. Report the post, event, or profile on the platform where mourners are seeing it — social platforms have dedicated flows for deceased-person exploitation and payment deception, and event pages come down faster than websites do. Ask the family to report it too; reports from connected accounts carry more weight.
3. Report the page's infrastructure
- Host — find it via ICANN lookup / IP lookup; write to the abuse address describing the payment collection under a copied funeral announcement. Hosts terminate these quickly; deception with payment collection violates every acceptable-use policy.
- Registrar — same lookup, same report; fresh domains used for payment deception get suspended at the registrar level.
- Google Safe Browsing — report the page so browsers warn later visitors.
4. Law enforcement, when money moved
If anyone paid: report to local police (for the paper trail the card dispute may need) and, in the US, to the FBI's IC3. Aggregate reports are how these operations eventually get pursued.
The funeral home's side
If you are the funeral home: post a plain notice on the obituary page ("the only livestream link for this service is on this page"), tell the family what to say to guests, and report the page's infrastructure as above — your report, on letterhead from the home of record, is the strongest single takedown signal a host receives.
