How we read the data
Bid Watch US reads one source: the public SAM.gov Contract Opportunities data extract, a CSV of every active notice that SAM.gov regenerates once a day and that anyone can download without an account or an API key. We download it once a day after SAM.gov publishes it.
- We keep notices that still take responses: solicitations, combined synopsis/solicitations, presolicitations and sources sought. Award notices, justifications and special notices are left out.
- A notice counts as open until its response deadline. A deadline that states no time zone is read as US Eastern time, and the page says so.
- The set-aside is the one SAM.gov states on the notice, grouped as small business, 8(a), SDVOSB, WOSB (with EDWOSB) and HUBZone.
- The state is the place of performance the notice states. Most notices state none, so state pages and the map count only the ones that do.
- We never store or show the contact names, emails or phone numbers in the file; in descriptions they are replaced with a pointer to the official notice.
- Every notice links its official page on SAM.gov. Responses are made there, never through us.
- The public data carries no contract value for open notices, so we never total one.
