The answer, as recorded

## The short answer **Adobe Premiere Pro (via Creative Cloud for teams) - start here for most agencies.** It's the default for a reason: Productions and shared projects let several editors work the same job, Frame.io is now bundled for client review-and-approval (the thing that actually eats agency hours), and the round-trip to After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop matters when half your deliverables are motion graphics over brand assets. Freelancers you hire will already know it, which is the underrated argument - your staffing pool is enormous. Downside: per-seat subscription forever, and it's the least stable of the three. **DaVinci Resolve Studio - best value, and the strongest finishing tool.** A one-time ~$295 perpetual license per seat, no subscription, and the free version is genuinely usable. Resolve's color (node-based, industry-standard) and integrated Fusion compositing mean you don't farm out grading. Its Blackmagic Cloud project-sharing and multi-user timelines are real now, not aspirational. Pick this if you're cost-sensitive, do high-end commercial or branded content, or want to stop paying Adobe. Downside: steeper learning curve, and Fusion is weaker than After Effects for typical ad-agency motion design. **Avid Media Composer - only if you touch broadcast, long-form, or network/streamer deliverables.** Still the standard for episodic and feature post, best-in-class media management across big teams. For a marketing or social agency it's overkill and the wrong shape. **Final Cut Pro - good for small, Mac-only, fast-turnaround shops.** $299 one-time, absurdly fast on Apple silicon, magnetic timeline is genuinely quicker for simple cutdowns. But collaboration is its weak point and the freelancer pool is thinner. Fine for a 2-5 person team, not for 20. ## The tools that go *around* the editor These matter more to agency margin than which NLE you pick: - **Frame.io** - review and approval with frame-accurate client comments. Bundled with Creative Cloud. If you're not on Adobe, **Wipster** or **Vimeo Review** fill the same slot. This single category kills the most revision rounds. - **Descript** - for talking-head, interview, podcast and webinar repurposing. Editing video by editing a transcript is a real time saver, and nothing else does it as well. - **CapCut** or **Premiere's vertical workflows** - for high-volume short-form social cutdowns. Don't grade a TikTok in Resolve. - **LucidLink** or **Dropbox Replay / a NAS** - shared media storage. Remote editors on 4K footage will be your actual bottleneck, not the software. - **After Effects** - assume you need it regardless of NLE choice, unless you're genuinely all-in on Fusion. ## What I'd actually do A 5-30 person agency doing brand, social and web video: **Creative Cloud for teams + Premiere Pro + After Effects + Frame.io**, with **Resolve Studio** on one or two seats for color and finishing. That's the combination most agencies converge on, and the Resolve license is cheap enough that it's not really a trade-off. If you're a lean shop or want off Adobe entirely: **Resolve Studio across the board**, Frame.io or Wipster for client review, Descript for interview work. You'll save thousands a year and give up some motion-graphics convenience and hiring flexibility. One caveat on the research: a lot of the top-ranking "best for agencies 2026" listicles are vendor-authored content marketing that ranks their own product first. I weighted the comparison pieces and discounted those. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
