The question asked, verbatim: best video conferencing software for remote teams

Brands named, in the order the engine gave

  1. Google Meet recommended
Google Meet - My default recommendation for most remote teams under ~200 people.
  2. Zoom mentioned
Its weakness is that advanced meeting controls (webinars, deep breakout management) are thinner than Zoom's.
  3. Microsoft mentioned
Microsoft Teams - The pick if you're already on Microsoft 365, which makes it effectively free rather than a new line item.
  4. Microsoft Teams mentioned
Microsoft Teams - The pick if you're already on Microsoft 365, which makes it effectively free rather than a new line item.
  5. Microsoft 365 mentioned
Microsoft Teams - The pick if you're already on Microsoft 365, which makes it effectively free rather than a new line item.
  6. Webex mentioned
Webex - Worth considering specifically if you're in a compliance-heavy industry (healthcare, finance, government) where its certifications and admin controls matter.
  7. Loom mentioned
One practical note: if your team's problem is "too many meetings" rather than "bad meetings," none of these fix it, and an async tool like Loom will do more for you than switching conferencing vendors.
  8. Zapier mentioned
    - Zapier - The best video conferencing software for teams in 2026 (https://zapier.com/blog/best-video-conferencing-apps/)

The answer, as recorded

The honest answer is that the "best" one is usually whichever one comes with the productivity suite you already pay for - the standalone quality gap between the big three has narrowed a lot. That said, here's how I'd rank them: **1. Google Meet** - My default recommendation for most remote teams under ~200 people. It's browser-based with no install friction (a big deal when you meet with clients and contractors), calendar integration is the smoothest of any of them, and it's bundled into Workspace starting around $7/user/month. The free tier is also the most generous for casual use: 100 participants, 60 minutes. Its weakness is that advanced meeting controls (webinars, deep breakout management) are thinner than Zoom's. **2. Microsoft Teams** - The pick if you're already on Microsoft 365, which makes it effectively free rather than a new line item. It's more than conferencing: persistent channel chat, file collaboration in Office docs, and the strongest enterprise security and compliance story of the three. The tradeoff is that it's heavy and the UX is genuinely more confusing than the alternatives. Also note Microsoft raised prices effective July 2026 - Business Basic went $6 → $7, Business Standard $12.50 → $14. **3. Zoom** - Still the best pure meeting experience, especially for anything external-facing or large: sales calls, webinars, all-hands, training. Call quality on bad connections remains its edge, and breakout rooms and webinar tooling are the most mature. Pro is about $15.99/host/month. The reason it's third rather than first is that the free 40-minute cap is annoying and you're paying for a tool that overlaps with a suite you likely already have. **4. Webex** - Worth considering specifically if you're in a compliance-heavy industry (healthcare, finance, government) where its certifications and admin controls matter. Otherwise it's a less pleasant daily driver. **5. Around / Whereby** - Honorable mention for small teams who want lightweight, link-based rooms without accounts or downloads. Whereby in particular is good for client-facing calls where you don't want to make someone install anything. One practical note: if your team's problem is "too many meetings" rather than "bad meetings," none of these fix it, and an async tool like Loom will do more for you than switching conferencing vendors.
