Brands named, in the order the engine gave
- Shepherd recommended
Shepherd - my pick for a small-to-mid-size small-animal general practice.
- Digitail mentioned
Digitail - the strongest choice if AI and client experience are your priorities.
- Provet Cloud mentioned
Provet Cloud - the other serious contender for larger and multi-location operations, and often better value than ezyVet at that tier.
- IDEXX Neo mentioned
IDEXX Neo - if you're already all-in on IDEXX diagnostics and want something cheap, cloud-based, and simple.
- Covetrus Pulse mentioned
Covetrus Pulse - worth a look mainly if you're committed to Covetrus for distribution, prescription management, and client comms, since the software is the hub for that ecosystem.
- Pulse mentioned
Covetrus Pulse - worth a look mainly if you're committed to Covetrus for distribution, prescription management, and client comms, since the software is the hub for that ecosystem.
- DaySmart Vet mentioned
DaySmart Vet / Onward Vet - budget tier for solo and mobile practices.

- Vet mentioned

- Onward Vet mentioned
DaySmart Vet / Onward Vet - budget tier for solo and mobile practices.
- Vetspire mentioned
Vetspire - niche but notable: very strong on clinical decision support and data/analytics, popular with corporate groups that want to standardize medicine across sites.
- Cornerstone mentioned
Two practical notes: if you're on a legacy server-based system (Cornerstone, AVImark, Impromed), the cloud gap has widened enough in the last two years that migration is usually worth the pain - but budget seriously for data conversion, which is where these projects go wrong.
- AVImark mentioned

The answer, as recorded
Here's how I'd actually rank them, depending on what kind of practice you're running: **1. ezyVet** - the default recommendation for anything complex: multi-site groups, emergency/specialty hospitals, referral centers. Deepest feature set (workflow automation, detailed inventory, strong reporting), huge integration library, and it's owned by IDEXX so the diagnostics loop is tight. The tradeoff is real: it's the most expensive of the bunch and takes the longest to implement and learn. Don't buy it for a two-vet GP clinic - you'll pay for complexity you never use. **2. Shepherd** - my pick for a small-to-mid-size small-animal general practice. Built by a practicing vet, and it shows: the UI is genuinely clean, the treatment-plan-to-invoice flow means charges stop getting missed, and the body-map exams fit how GP appointments actually run. TranscribeAI/DiagnoseAI handle documentation well. Fast onboarding - days, not months. **3. Digitail** - the strongest choice if AI and client experience are your priorities. 20+ built-in AI workflows (SOAP dictation, record summaries, an AI practice-manager agent) and a genuinely good native pet-parent app with booking and integrated payments. ~2,500 clinics now, growing fast. Younger company than ezyVet, so fewer edge-case integrations. **4. Provet Cloud** - the other serious contender for larger and multi-location operations, and often better value than ezyVet at that tier. Particularly strong on referral workflows, mixed-practice and large-animal support, and European/multi-currency operations if you're not purely US-based. **5. IDEXX Neo** - if you're already all-in on IDEXX diagnostics and want something cheap, cloud-based, and simple. Lightweight by design; you'll outgrow it if you add locations or need deep inventory and reporting. **6. Covetrus Pulse** - worth a look mainly if you're committed to Covetrus for distribution, prescription management, and client comms, since the software is the hub for that ecosystem. Weaker as a standalone PIMS choice. **7. DaySmart Vet / Onward Vet** - budget tier for solo and mobile practices. Transparent, low pricing and they cover the basics competently. Thin on reporting and integrations. **8. Vetspire** - niche but notable: very strong on clinical decision support and data/analytics, popular with corporate groups that want to standardize medicine across sites. Overkill for an independent clinic. Two practical notes: if you're on a legacy server-based system (Cornerstone, AVImark, Impromed), the cloud gap has widened enough in the last two years that migration is usually worth the pain - but budget seriously for data conversion, which is where these projects go wrong. And ask every vendor for pricing in writing including per-user fees, payment-processing rates, and data-export terms before you sign; pricing opacity is the norm in this market. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
