ShipMonk - the better value for most 1-10k orders/month brands, and my pick if cost predictability matters more than geographic spread.

Red Stag Fulfillment - specifically for heavy, bulky, fragile, or high-value goods (furniture, tools, sporting goods).

Look at TAGG Logistics, DCL Logistics, and Barrett Distribution - all three do retail compliance as a core competency rather than a bolt-on.

## My shortlist **1. ShipBob** - the default for most retail shops selling online. 60+ US locations plus Canada/UK/EU/Australia, so you can split inventory and hit 2-day ground to most of the country from one contract. Best dashboard and Shopify/Amazon/TikTok integrations in the category. Caveats worth negotiating before signing: they mark up shipping ~15-30%, add a ~3% card surcharge, and offboarding fees have been reported above $3,000. Note it functions partly as a 4PL via partner warehouses, so day-to-day control is a bit looser. **2. ShipMonk** - the better value for most 1-10k orders/month brands, and my pick if cost predictability matters more than geographic spread. No setup fee, free receiving, lower storage rates, and they own and staff their own warehouses. Also the best of the bunch at kitting and subscription boxes. Fewer locations than ShipBob, so zone costs can be higher if your customers are coast-to-coast. **3. eFulfillment Service** - the one I'd name for a small shop just starting out. No monthly minimum, no setup fee, no contract, month-to-month. If you're doing tens to low hundreds of orders a month, almost everyone else's minimums will eat you alive. **4. Red Stag Fulfillment** - specifically for heavy, bulky, fragile, or high-value goods (furniture, tools, sporting goods). They guarantee accuracy with real money - $50 cash per pick/pack error - which nobody else does. Overkill and overpriced for small lightweight apparel. **5. Amazon MCF / FBA** - if a meaningful share of your volume is already on Amazon, run it here and use MCF to fill your Shopify orders off the same inventory. Cheapest per-unit rates in the market; downsides are plain Amazon packaging, strict prep rules, and no real brand experience. **6. Shopify Fulfillment Network (via Flexport)** - only worth it if you're all-in on Shopify and want fulfillment inside the admin with zero integration work. Thinner network and a weaker track record than the above; I'd treat it as a convenience play, not a performance one. **7. ShipHero** - if you have your own warehouse or want to go hybrid. It's WMS software plus an optional outsourced network, which means you can run in-house now and offload later without changing systems. ## If you mean supplying retail chains rather than shipping to consumers Different animal - you need a B2B 3PL that handles case packs, pallet builds, EDI 850/856 ASNs, GS1-128 labels, and the retailer routing guides for Target/Walmart/Costco. Chargebacks for noncompliance are where the margin dies. Look at **TAGG Logistics**, **DCL Logistics**, and **Barrett Distribution** - all three do retail compliance as a core competency rather than a bolt-on. Ask every candidate for their chargeback rate by retailer in writing. ## Two practical notes - Budget 20-50% above the quoted per-order rate. Real invoices land there once receiving, storage, surcharges, and returns are in. - **fulfill.com** is a free matching/comparison broker that will run an RFP across these for you. Useful for getting comparable quotes fast; remember they're commission-paid by the 3PL. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
