The answer, as recorded

Here's how I'd actually rank them for a remote/distributed team: **1. Asana** - My default recommendation for most remote teams. It has the best balance of structure and usability: clear task ownership, due dates that actually mean something, strong workload and portfolio views, and solid automation. The reason it suits remote work specifically is that it nudges people to write status into the task instead of dropping it in a meeting. Starts ~$11/user/mo; the free tier is usable up to 10 people. **2. ClickUp** - Best value, and the one to pick if budget is the binding constraint. The free plan allows unlimited users, which is genuinely unusual, and paid starts around $7/user/mo. It bundles tasks, docs, goals, and chat so you switch apps less. The tradeoff is real: it's dense and configurable to a fault, so someone on the team needs to own the setup or it becomes a mess. **3. Linear** - If your team is software engineering, use this instead of the above. It's fast, opinionated, and keyboard-driven, with cycles and triage that fit async work well. It won't serve marketing or ops teams, which is why it's not #1 generally. **4. Monday.com** - The easiest to get non-technical people to actually adopt. Very visual boards and dashboards, low learning curve. I put it below Asana because the per-seat pricing is higher (~$12/user/mo) and it pushes you into minimum seat tiers, and the visual-first model gets unwieldy on complex dependencies. **5. Notion** - Pick this only if your work is documentation-heavy with project tracking layered on, not the reverse. It's excellent as a team wiki and the writing-things-down habit it creates is valuable for async teams. As a pure task tracker it's weaker - no real workload management, and notifications are easy to miss across time zones. **6. Trello** - The right answer for small teams (under ~10) with simple, linear workflows. Kanban, drag and drop, almost no onboarding cost. It stops scaling once you need dependencies, reporting, or cross-project views. **7. Jira** - Only for agile engineering orgs that need rigorous issue tracking and already live in the Atlassian ecosystem. Unmatched at that; painful for anything else. **8. Basecamp** - Worth a look specifically past ~25 people because of flat-rate pricing instead of per-seat. Deliberately minimal and async-friendly, but you give up Gantt views and granular reporting. Practical note: for remote teams the tool matters less than the convention around it. Whichever you choose, agree that status lives in the tool and not in chat - otherwise you'll pay for the app and still run on meetings. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited.
