Zoho Invoice** - my default recommendation. Genuinely free (not freemium-with-a-wall), does recurring invoices on weekly/monthly/custom schedules, auto-charges saved cards, has time tracking and a client portal. Cap is 1,000 invoices/year, which no solo freelancer hits. Start here unless you have a specific reason not to. **2. Wave** - the other free option. Simpler and more US/Canada-centric, with real double-entry accounting behind it, which matters at tax time. Weaker than Zoho on time tracking. Pick it over Zoho if you want invoicing and bookkeeping in one place and don't care about the Zoho ecosystem. **3. FreshBooks (~$23/mo)** - worth paying for if you bill hourly and the timer-to-invoice flow is your daily workflow. The catch: the Lite plan caps you at 5 billable clients and extra users are ~$11/mo each, so check your client count before committing. **4.
