Zoho Invoice - start here.** Genuinely free, not freemium-with-a-catch: unlimited invoices, unlimited customers, recurring invoice profiles, auto-charge on saved cards, payment reminders, time and expense tracking, and a client portal at $0. Zoho monetizes by upselling you to Zoho Books later if you need real double-entry accounting. For a solo freelancer running 3-15 retainer clients, it's hard to justify paying for anything else until you hit a specific wall. **2. Wave - if you want invoicing and accounting in one free tool.** Recurring billing plus bank feeds and basic bookkeeping, free on the base plan; you pay 2.9% + $0.60 per card transaction. The $19/mo Pro plan drops that to 2.9% + $0 for your first 10 transactions monthly, which is worth the math if you invoice a handful of larger retainers. Best for US/Canada freelancers.
